So my buddy Clint Chandler, whos plays guitar with Sara Evans, gives me his Marshall Jackhammer to fool around with. He has never really found a use for it, and I didn't think I would either. But, after goofing around with it a bit (even though I still don't really like it) I found some decent tones out of it. Believe it or not, I think this pedal is more useful for *LOW-GAIN* sounds... When trying to set it for higher-gain lead sounds, it gets that typical, mouse-y squeal-lly thing going on typical of a lot of "Marshall in a box" pedals... But set for a rhythm boost, it actually sounds pretty cool. Still pretty thick, but clear enough for chord work if you don't happen to have a ZenDrive or Keeley BD-2 laying around... And just for grins, I did a "wank" clip with it in high-gain mode a la Jimi. It turned out ok when recorded, but I can tell you that it does NOT sound this full when trying to use it with a band- J I guess this is really just proof that it's the AMP that sounds so damn good...HA! ;D www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=465770

WOW. The low gain setting with the tele sounds really nice. High gain...not so good.

These guys did a killer job for her for years and when you consider that every performance is exactly the same as the last because she wants everything done exactly the same as on the records then why would one ever want to change up the backing band in any case. I guess Erik had too much stage presence for Sara's comfort. Tell your friend to make sure he has secondary plans and a safety net!

Speaking of Sara Evans, I just saw her open the show for Nashville Star. If she was a contestant, I think she would have been voted off - she was off pitch almost the entire song!

Well... We definitely don't need to get into a "Sara Bash..." not productive and off-topic to this forum. But... I'll just tell you guys, from first-hand experience in a number of situations, a LOT of artists don't treat their band members (who've worked as long & hard at their craft as the ARTIST has!) as well as they should. There are, of course, exceptions... Folks like Vince, Paisley, Steve Wariner come to mind as guys who treat their band guys well.... But let's face it- Those guys are all PLAYERS THEMSELVES!!! They've all been there & done that, and know how quality musicians need to be treated... Cheers to those "few & far between" artists who "get it"!!! JC

Jayson, I sent you a PM (I had an off-topic question). If you think your answer would benefit anyone else, feel free to post it here or elswhere.

those low gain settings sound nice. forgot to ask you, did you use that at the Pinson show in AZ, or just the TS9?

I was using the Jackhammer for the low-gain stuff, like on the clips. Mainly rhythm parts, fills, etc. The TS-9 is mainly for leads, and turned them both on for most of the slide stuff- I should have all my pedals back from Keeley in a couple of days. Had some adjustments and other stuff to several of them....

The thing sounds pretty good on the low gain settings. Just goes to show you that some of these pedals work a whole lot better than you think they will, especially set in a way you might not think to try at first. Hey Jayson, if you ever need a Maz Jr. in Seattle let me know.
