Ok, I have been putting off using the Therapy live (I know, I know). One of the things that I have been struggling with is humbuckers. Just not really digging them as much as I hoped with the Therapy. So I have been playing it mainly with a Deluxe Tele (butterscotch) at home and not really with the band. The band I am in plays mainly rock but with a lot of other stuff (funk, country, harder rock, etc.) and most of it is original music. I usually use either a 336 or LP into a Remedy or Z28. But it being the Halloween season I really wanted to bring the red Therapy with a black Z cab.
It was Friday night at a local brewery with a pretty big beer garden outside and it was packed. Good mix of college kids and working stiffs. Plugged in the Tele and went with:
MV-10
B-9
M-1
T-2
V-11
We were splitting the bill and went first which I was very happy about but only vocals and kick were mic'd. During the first song I was asked to turn up, OK:)! MV went to 11 and seemed to do the trick, brought the B up a tick as well. The Tele was smoking with the occasional KOT and flying dragon chipping in. Then one of the bartenders comes over and asks us to turn down, BOOOOO! The other guitar player plays a Red Plate and a PRS so both set-ups were very complementary as well as rocking. We ended up pushing the volume back up as the dance floor filled without an issue .
After we tore down and were enjoying some fine BEvERges. The other guitar play comes over and said about half way through the set he had no idea I was using the Tele and was surprised at how good it fit. Also, had a couple guitar player friends in the crowd who commented first on seeing the Tele out and second how good the tone was.
All in all I was very happy finally getting to open it up some, like others have said it loves to be opened up! It should not surprise me but boy was I happy, at volume it is quite a different animal.
Oh, markT it was a gold in that cab !
