I had a gig at a small sports bar last Saturday. I debated whether to take the Maz 8 or 18. I finally decided on the 8 and I'm glad I did. It was a perfect fit all night. But, when I cranked up "Three Steps" on my Les Paul, I heard those two words that deflate every guitar player, "turn down." [sigh]

Like saying "Un-Plug". Pretty cool you were told to turn down with a Maz 8 LOL!
Maybe Doc has to come up with a Maz 1.

While I wait for my MAZ 8 to arrive I will put my nickel ninety-eight out there. I believe 5 to 15 watts is the perfect power for most of the situations I play in. I have had the Marshall JMP-1 one watt amp. It was close, but not quite loud enough for jammin with the boys. They get on my back when I use the Route 66 or Antidote to its potential even with the Brake Lite. I have a Traynor YBA-1 Mod 1 which has a cool attenuation circuit built in, though I usually turn it up too much. I have a Mini Z which works quite well and hangs with the band at practice so I'm figuring the MAZ 8 will be perfect (I'll probably use both and annoy the boys anyway).

Was it the sound guy who said that? Or a punter? If a punter, I tend to pretend to turn down, and then twist my cab slightly if possible as the punter is usually in "the beam" ....... Might be same issue with sound guy too

Yeah, that's ("turn down")a classic. You're supposed to counter with the other classic "If it's too loud, you're too old"..

That place was too small for a sound man. The "punter" was the bartender!
