In one word "Yes". There is something about the sound of the Monza that I can't get out of my head and that I have grown to love so much so that it has become part of my sound. I bought the Monza to act as an overdrive channel to my Ghia and while that has worked out okay it has taken me some time to stop comparing them and appreciate them as two separate entities.
The Ghia has something about it that seems fuller to me and bolder/wider in sound than the Monza. The Monza 'seems' more compressed or something...I don't know how to describe it but running them thru the same speaker cab with a head switcher I always feel that the Ghia is a more open sounding amp and the Monza narrower.
This has kept me in some ways from fully embracing the Monza over the last 9 months, but every time and I mean every time I play the Monza I just love it and have such a great time. I've thought of selling it a few times and even listed it here once ( until a couple of you advised me to a better way), but every time I think of selling it I don't know what I could do to replace that sound. It's just a unique tone in the Monza, kinda like a Fuzz pedal mixed with a trumpet/trombone style horn-ness to it. It has a way of communicating the notes that reminds me of how horn players sound and I just really appreciate it. I haven't owned tons of amps over the years but I don't know of any other amps that have an overdriven tone that is as close to a fuzz sound as this amp does, but the clarity of the notes is what reminds me of a horns articulation or something.....I don't know, but I've been sick with a fever for this entire week and today it finally broke and the first thing I did, besides shower to wash off the YUCK feeling, was plug into my Monza and spend about a half hour just loving the tone. So I wanted to come over here and say thanks to Dr. Z for making such a cool amp and toss out my thoughts to all who are into it for posterity sake.
Also mine came with the MV mod on the back panel and in the 4ohm output ( not done by the Doc or Z family ). I've been thinking of sending it in to the factory to have it done on the front and get my outputs back and to ensure that it is done the correct way. How long did ya'll have to wait for turn around for the mod to be done at the Z factory?
Allright back to rest time for me so I can get fully healthy but that little bit of medicine I just received from my in house Dr. made me feel alive again.
Peace Ya'll
