Hey all, new to the world of Z and seriously considering buying one of the Mini's. My first experience with a Z was about four months ago, I was killing time at a music store and asked about a used Fender blues Jr. they had, after trying it out the salesman said, "now check this out", I believe it was a Monza and a Maz. Of course I loved the tone and tonability of both but I couldn't really afford one at the time, plus it seemed like to much amp for me. The only jam sessions around here are acoustic so it would only be used at home, which leads me to believe the Mini would be the better choice over the Monza or Maz. Opinions please!!!!! Harry

The MAZ is great and would be my choice. MAZ8 or 18. Very versatile

First welcome to the Forum! A lot of great information and people here. What kind of music do you play? If you are looking to get into a Z for as little as possible the Mini is the way to go. I saw a version 1 combo on TGP for $450. Hard to beat that! The Maz is Doc's best selling amp - there is a reason for that! Very versatile amp that can go from clean to mean and everywhere in between.

Thanks for the replys. My delima would be volume, most of the time I play in my music room with headphones using a Yamaha THR 10, that's getting old plus the tone and presets are just ok. Since I heard the Z I can't stop wanting one. I'm 55 so I like and try to play rock from the early 60's thru today, to many to mention. I was thinking about the Mini because of the low volume. Thanks!

Thanks! Actually I think that the Monza with Master volume is the best choice for home use because of the master volume. I regularly play mine while my two year old sleeps and have no trouble caused. With the master volume you can get rock tones at quiet levels. All amps sound best when turned up, but the Monza is a really great home amp and it is my go to for around the house. I also use it with a band and stuff and because of the master volume it is easy to use for any sized gig. The MAZ has a master but it seems that folks don't use it the same as the Monza one so maybe they can chime in on that. Used Monza's in a 1x10 cab can be found for around $1000 or less if a fellow is not in a rush. The Mini Z has a built in attenuator right ? If so then that would work good too, but less clean tones maybe....Welcome aboard mate.

Amazingly enough, when I play my mini at home, I use a Swart night lite attenuator (Z air brake would also work with the bedroom setting) instead of the onboard unit because of volume issues. When I play out I still usually use a click or two on the mini's. Speaker efficiency will make a big difference - I have a WGS v30 in a closed cab which is pretty efficient.

Well after spending the weekend reading and watching vid's I'm leaning towards ordering a Monza 1x10 combo with the PPIMV plus have them install the break lite before it leaves the shop. The only opportunity I get to play with others is acoustically so this will be used at low volumes and miked into my DAW, I must feed the rocker in me. Thanks for taking time to reply. Harry

I think you will like the Monza a lot. Wide range of OD sounds and you won't need any pedals in front of it Todd

Thinking is over!!!! The order was placed yesterday afternoon, don't know the lead time but there's a new Monza 1X10 combo with the PPIMV and a break lite being built with my name on it. And I asked the Dr. to autograph it, hope he does. Harry

I find it ironic that we talk about the Monza being a good at-home amp with the ppimv since before that brilliant mod, it was just way too loud for home! I LOVE my Monza.

I use my mini Z with an external attenuator (Marshall powerbrake) ,in order to keep the volume down without loosing its sound ,at home,so i believe that the Monza with its master volume and its tons of gain/sustain would be much more useful for home use too, plus it must be a lot more louder for any use really,so if you are going for one amp that can cover a lot of ground i would say go with the Monza too. I'm thinking of getting one for myself if i can find a used one too.
