I'm not much on the oval look myself. I mean honestly I don't really care what it's called or what it looks like though. After all it's about tone feel right? I've been combing through the interwebs looking for a blackface deluxe, vibrolux, vibroverb type amp for a couple months now. I just can't decide on one. If this baby is coming back with a new attitude it might be just what I'm looking for, especially with that half power switch. What I really want to know is, where do I sign up!??

Wonder if it will have a tube or solid state rectifier. Not sure what the difference would be...

Major difference. It would require a power x-former with a 5 volt tap. The 'feel' would be much different. I'm sure they didn't even consider going that way.

So you think they will stick with the solid state rectifier?

I love the oval look. I've had several other musicians tell me the same thing.

I kinda like the look on Joe Walsh's JAZ 20/40. Kind of a Z pattern across the grill cloth. Very unique!

Another vote for the oval look. Especially on the heads. I understand the practical aspects of keeping the parts and construction as similar as possible between models but the appeal is in the difference. Now a Harvey oval (head or combo) would be ultra cool.

so how long of a wait before the new version of the jaz is available? Finalizing the cab size and weight. Should be available say March 2015, ( Tax Return Time ).

This is great news! Guess i'm not hanging around Ztalk enough, just hearing about this now!
Owned an original Jaz combo. It was very good, but not quite 100% what i wanted out of it. Also, i think i'm currently in a "Clean Fender" state of mind then i was then.
I would love to hear Doc's refinement of the original idea. Everything he said in his post is music to my ears.
As for the name; my .02: JAZ Deluxe, or JAZ REVERB, perhaps. Maybe dump the 20/40, add Deluxe to cue what ballpark you're in. Remedy was fine without 20/40 in there… But keep the JAZ. Personal meaning trumps marketing.
cheers, thanks Doc!!

I'm late to the party here, but i have two thoughts regarding the marketing and the name. 1. First rule of marketing - if your product is functional (ie people buy it first and foremost for what it does or produces) then the name and the look better not detract from the function of the product.
2. for me at least, the name and the oval are a bit of a distraction. not sure why, but they just are...
Naming an amp after a beloved family member is cool. i would be tempted to do the same thing. but in this case i do think it gets in the way just a bit of the amp itself. when i listened to the below video yesterday i was floored by how good the amp sounds, particulary at the beginning. A little rebranding could be just the ticket to make this amp one of Doc's best sellers ever.
not to be trite here, but i think that the best tribute to father Z is Mike Zaite himself - the man!
no disrespect meant to Z or dad, just some candid observations...

I am so excited to see the JAZ getting a well deserved second chance. I have several friends who have been blackface Deluxe players for many years, and they LOVE the JAZ. They agree with me when I say the JAZ is a deluxe done right. I believe the new version will add even more icing to an already delicious cake. I wonder if those of us already in the JAZ club will be able to upgrade?? Frankie, you do one heck of a nice demo, all of your videos are very tasteful and well played. Keep 'em coming!!

I just came across this thread. After reading through it all I can say is that I continue to be very happy that I was able to buy a JAZ combo several years ago. The amp has been fantastic, the perfect platform for every kind of music that I want to make. I do keep a clean boost in front of it pretty much all the time (a GT-500 clean boost) and it just makes the nicest, fat sound I could ever want. It just works.
Doc Z, am glad to hear that you are bringing it back. Yes, I did kind of like that I had something that was hard to find and rare, but I'm glad that others will get to have an amp this nice. I'm certain your enhancements will just make it better (but I can't honestly say it will be better than mine, not sure if I would make a single change to it, except that I like cheap Chinese tubes in the very front of the tone stack for some reason).
Can I ask that if you do change the name to help people decide to buy it, will you reference the original name somehow? I started my music life in Jazz, so I actually liked the name, but I think that the heritage is worth remembering. It's one of the best amps that ever came out of your shop - and that is really saying something - and I know that many players truly love what you did with it.
It's funny. I read about "GAS" and it took me a little while to figure out what that meant. But, since I bought this amp, I have never seriously considered another amp. Well, one time Robin Zander was selling a Mesa Mark I and I thought about that but it was too much money and I knew it would make my wife mad if I bought it. But, other than that, nope. Put a Strat in front of a Z and you can just forget about everything except making good noise.
Doc Z, you do something that every manufacturer/artisan should aspire to do: Make a great product that is built to last, priced fairly, and that does what it is supposed to do. I can't wait for your new version to come out and I will make sure to tell my friends about it and I hope they buy one.

the ELIXR would be catchy being the Remedy , Therapy, RX, are all really cool for your tone Fix, being we are all DRZ JUNKIES!!!!! I loved the Tone of the JAZ but, as others mentioned the Name could be Revamped , Appearance and cool names are HUGE SELLING Points the Tone will sell itself as we all know do all the other Z's do in the line up. BRING IT ON!!!!!!
