Yea, nice little photo bomb by the JAZ! The Zwreck grill cloth is what made think it could be the real deal.

Yes I have been dusting off the old JAZ, and making some nice upgrades. I have a new 12" speaker that is being developed by Eminence and myself, great 60's Fender type tone. A new lighter cab, using the techniques found in the Z Wreck 1X12 combo. Re groomed the circuits some , to what I believe is a nice smooth tone with a slant to the Fender Deluxe Reverb with the capability of 40 watts or more Deluxe like 20 watts in one package, a true JR/SR in one box. The tube driven Tremolo is amazing on this amp if I must say so myself, I have never heard " Crimson and Clover" played so many times, yes " Over and Over". The reverb is intensified which should satisfy the die hard Fender players, and the combination of Trem and Reverb is the coolest effect near Leslie like.
I have thought about a name change do to the problems in acceptance of the old name " is this amp for Jazz only?", but it is a tip of the hat to my father , may he rest in peace, who started me on this path. What do you guys think, re-release it as the new improved JAZ 20/40 ?
I'm looking for an early 2015 availability.

Just my opinion but the JAZ is probably not going to be the first product in the Dr. Z line that a guitarist buys. Most likely it will be something more spartan like a MAZ Jr or CG. By the time they are hooked and ready to buy another amp I would think they would be aware of what 'JAZ' means. So much has been made of the confusion surrounding the name of the original amps I would be surprised if it happened again; especially if the web page was tweaked a little. Keep the name. Maybe call it JAZ+ or something just to denote that it is a slightly different product.

Being a huge JAZ proponent, I'm all for a new version, Doc.
As to a name change, I'd keep it, but if you think the circuit changes are significant, it might be worth an extension a la "Mazerati GT" or "Prescription ES".

How about JAZ 20/40 (Slight Return)

I like Mikes suggestion with the extension, maybe add periods between the initials and /or drop the A. Ala J.Z. GT
It sounds like a great amp whatever you decide.

So can we send in our old JAZ and get the tweaks Doc? A lighter cab sounds like a great idea and may be a worthwhile cost on our end as part of the "upgrade". Please keep the name. It's part of the lineage of the Z line and as a nod to your dad. Players who know Z's know what a killer amp the JAZ is and those who seek it out aren't concerned w the name just the tone.

That's awesome Doc! I already love it just by your description! I have always thought that the name sort of dampened the success of the JAZ. But I'm also hesitant to suggest a name change because it does have a significant meaning for you, and all of us loyal Z clan know what that is. Honestly, the name didn't scare me off from the JAZ, and I'm not a jazz player at all.
But with that said, I think it's all in the marketing. Especially in the description of the amp, maybe start out with a little history behind the name and the amp itself. Really emphasize that this not an uber clean jazz monster. An addition to the name like "plus" or "+" might be cool as well. I don't think "GT" would apply here, as I automatically associate that with a high gain monster type amp, ala Mazerati GT.

I think the name change would be a very good idea.
The old name is wildly misunderstood

Sounds awesome and it's exciting just thinking about some of those changes. If you do decide to change the name maybe you could sign the inside of the cabs with something like, " In honor of my dad J.A.Z. " or something. It's weird to me that people let a name keep them from an amp design.

How about calling it the Cowboy Freak Flag, as it can do anything from simple cowboy chords to total rock and roll melt down .... I expect that I am not on the right track but why not toss some out.
What about something related to the kind of vehicle your dad drove, since you have a vehicle thing already going. The Studebaker sounds cool but of course I don't know why I'm suggesting these. I'm mostly trying to get the slinky going down the stairs in hopes that others will keep chiming in.
What about The Good River, since Ohio sorta stems from the Iroquois Indian word that meant good river.
The Transporter , kinda like the VW Bus but the other name for them
The Backline
The Surgeon
The Repairman
okay I'll stop.

DR.Z I'd say stay with the name. There is a personal connection for you that's important. Having said that if it's marketing, and you mentioned the F' word leanings, in particular Deluxe; how about "JAZ Deluxe", or "Deluxe JAZ". My preference, I prefer the former. Put dad out front. (I'm assuming those are his initials).

Dr Z, any chance you could give the reverb Mix and Dwell, like on the EZG? Maybe stick Dwell on the rear panel?

As if I aint droolin' enuff about other Z Amps ..... Glad to see some love and attention bein' given to the JAZ. I know how rare they are in general, never mind how few if any actually made into Canada, eh Personally, I'd stay with the original name. And, lookin' forward to what 2015 might bring. bestest regards and cheers always, Joel

DR.Z WONDERFUL news Doc!!! I am SO excited you are doing this, made my Friday. Several players I know LOVE mine and have told me they would buy one if they came back. I like the fact that you name your amps after people who are important to your life. Maybe call it the JAZ 20/40 Deluxe or JAZ 20/40 DE for deluxe edition?? ....just a couple thoughts.

I always liked the name and the art deco look to the amp (oval front).
Would be great to be able to upgrade my exiting one to the new specs when available.

DR.Z My 2 cents: Keep the name. I think there is enough buzz around the JAZ and its misunderstood name that if someone were interested and googled it, they would be quickly disabused of the notion that it's a jazz amp. Also, the homage to your father is worth keeping the name alone.
Do you plan to keep the oval front design?

The weight issue is important to a lot of players and seems to have fallen on mostly deaf ears in the amp building community.
I'm mighty glad to see the esteemed Doc mention the lighter cabinet.
