The 6545 is back to stay this time. I sold my other 2. (like a moron) I forgot how easy this amp is to dial in and how great the low end is. KT side has a AC30/Hiwatt thing going on with tons of headroom. SRZ side is a JCM 800 meets JTM 45 (to me) with a little cranked blackface bassman thrown in. Things that all of you know that have one. I'm running a 2x12 cab with an Eminence V128 & Private Jack, it's a great match. My Celestion loaded cabs don't seem to like all DR Z amps and I can't figure out why..
6545 time!

I've kinda been jones-ing for one of those...for my big boy amp. I've had good luck with Eminence and Z's as well, but equally I've got some Celestions that fit the bill. For sure to me it seems that Z's and speaker choice go a long way for completing the tone in my head. Congrats on the '3rd time' is the charm amp !!

Thanks! The SRZ side is pretty amazing at lower volumes.

Try the Celestions at a gig - way different than in the studio or basement.

I love my SRZ-65...The KT side coupled with the SRZ would probably be nirvana for me, LOL.

My Celestion loaded cabs don't seem to like all DR Z amps and I can't figure out why.. 6545 time! Every time I think that I can sell my 6545 because I purchased some other amp I end up selling the other amp. Hands down the 6545 is a british amp lovers dream. The tonal aesthetic of the 45 side is such a perfect compliment to that of the 65 side - kind of like beauty and the beast or Jeckyl and Hyde. With regards to cabinets, it comes down to construction and dimensions. Also it depends of the profile of the speakers you have. I believe the amp and speaker chosen should compliment each other. For example, with an amp that is a little scooped in the mid department, a celection vintage 30 actually sounds great but it sounds really bad with a mid heavy amp. I have a THD 212 cabinet and Dr. Z Wreck cabinet that I have used with both Eminence and Celestions. I actually prefer the Celestions - they have this presence that no other speaker company can replicate. Another thing to note, is that with Dr Z amps you have to use your tone controls on your guitar. These are gigging amps and there are times in a live mix where having that little extra treble presence enables one to cut through the mix. In the past with different amps, I used to love that creamy tone I would get in my house but as soon as we would play live I would get lost in the mix. Now, with my Z-amps I usually set the tone of the amp with my guitar tone controls at about 80% (depending on what value your capacitor is) and take it from there depending on the room. In any case, I wish you well with your wise choice.

I didn't have my 6545 long enough to realize what I had - foolish man in the early part of my Z trek. I did manage to record mine a couple times, and this time I captured in the intro a hint of what this monster is capable of: Money for NothingGrosh Bent Top Custom > Compulator > Dr. Z 6545 > Airbrake [-6db] > Rivera 4x10 Cab [Fender DeVille Speakers] Amp was set for SRZ-65 side with: - bass dimed,
- middle dimed,
- treble @ 2 o'clock,
- master at noon,
- gain at 3 o'clock
