Hi folks, Thinking of getting an M12 to use as a clean pedal platform. I would run it through an open-back 2x12 loaded with G12M Greenbacks. I'd get all my dirt from a ZVex Distortron on all the time, which I'd hit with an 808 for leads. I also plan on using time-based effects after the drive pedals (delay and reverb).
Will the M12 give me solid low end that won't flab out, even when I switch to my neck humbucker?

I think you might be "on the edge" of getting what you need, and not... and it's gonna depend upon your ears & the speaker perhaps more than the amp...
First of all, have you tried the amp, and do you think you'd be using it cranked up loud or down lower in its volume range? At more moderate volumes (let's say between 10:00 and noon on the volume control) the amp will be overall cleaner & tighter than it is when cranked (i.e., tighter and more accurate bass).
Second, have you used the open-back 2×12 greenbacks before, and are they good enough for you on the low end?
If you answered "moderate" volume to the first question, and "yes" to the second question, then absolutely the M12 will be great for what you need. [The issue here is that what some guys consider "tight" bass is what others call "weak;" and one guy's impression of "solid" bass can be "hard" in another guy's opinion.] I hope that helps...

Greenbacks aren't exactly known for their bass response. But having them in the 2x12 config would help. I found the m12 to have enough bass for my needs. If the greenbacks don't work for you, the creamback would do better in the bass department.

Very helpful. Thanks folks!
I've used greenbacks before with a Vox AC15 and was happy with the bass. Certainly didn't find them weak sounding.

Just now got mine from the guy in the brown shorts--big ballsy low end through a 1x12 Gold; probably less so with Greenies.

I was always impressed with the low end response of my M12, even at low volumes. Mark (Basement Enthusiast). knows his stuff too. I echo his sentiments.

The M12 combo dish throw or give me enough low end - but the M12 paired with a 2x12 gives me wonderful low end that doesn't ger too flabby at all.

Well, I tried the M 12 at my local store with my guitar and my full pedal board. I have to admit that I was not inspired. I then tried a Remedy that was sitting next to it, which blew me away as a clean platform for my pedals. So much more "oomph." I bought it.

I found that out in building a princeton reverb with transformers to handle 6L6's... that said, the M12 is as close to a big bottom small glass amp as I have found. Even moving from a R66 to the Z28 (awesome amp btw)... nearly the exact same circuit, there really isn't much comparison in 'bigness'.

THis afternoon I was checking out some speaker combinations in my Z 2x12 open back with the M12. A pair of Greenbacks won't do it nearly as well as a Creamback H and a Greenback. The Creamback H and Greenback work well together and clearly give a better bass response than 2 Greenbacks. The M12 with this combination in a 2x12 does get pretty loud.

Thanks, but I've already bought a remedy instead of a M12. Congratulations! Very different amps. Remedy can be both a great pedal platform and can really rock out. I assume you got the current production version with the Master?
