Slightly tongue in cheek heading, but we did a full rehearsal last night, and I didn't touch a dirt or boost pedal all night! Didn't need them at all, which given the range of songs we do, was a real surprise.
The combination of my new PRS S2 Mira and this Therapy is just stunning! Now that I've figured out the Mira's Volume knob, and started using the coil tap, I can get an immense range of tones, and levels of dirt, out of this combination without touching the amp's controls. I found myself getting the most from these settings:
MV - 11-noon
B - 9
M - maxed
T - noon
V - 3 o'clock
I only maxed the GV for solos, and given the way the Mira reacts with the Therapy, this gave me a substantial volume boost at the last second, and a treble boost too, so it really cut through! Often I didn't even need to max it to get a GREAT solo tone! I could roll the GV right back to 2-3 and get a fantastic shimmering clean tone, especially when the pups were tapped, yet not lose too much volume. The Therapy just seemed to know what I wanted to hear, and there it was! Playing some classic snarly Strat tones was a breeze up around 7-8 on the GV.
Then going back to humbucker mode, and keeping the GV up to 7-8 brought out some real ballsy AC/DC rhythm tones on the bridge pups, and again the Therapy was giving up the goods; go to the mid position, with the GV at 9, and ZZ Top was blasting out. Finally max that GV on the bridge pup, and the sustain and harmonics coming out of that amp were otherworldly! The guitar literally vibrated in my hands - pinch harmonics, stabs, palm mutes, singing notes, controlled feedback - easy! I just thought about it, and the Therapy went "yeah whatever - what's next??"
The only pedals I touched were for specific effects on a few songs, and that's it! (Delay, Envelope Filter, POG Octaves)
I am slightly worried though........... I think I've become an addict after all these years - I can't stop thinking about this amp, when I'm not playing it, that is! "Hi, my name is Pete, and I'm a Z-aholic" ...........
