I have a couple of questions for you KT-45 users.
I was curious as to whether most of you used it clean w/pedals for dirt or cranked with an airbrake? What pedals do you use to get a good rhythm crunch ala AC/DC, Who, etc?
For those of you using it with an airbrake, can you roll off the volume and still get a decent clean sound? Using it cranked with an airbrake does it give you that "Who-type" chord crunch?
I'm considering purchasing one. What is a fair price or market value for a used one these days?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

coreybox -
Thanks. I checked out your clips with the KT-45, very nice. Nice cleans. What pedals, may I ask, we're you using to get the crunch sound you liked with the KT-45?
Thanks.

I also have a 45, it can crunch hard on its own with 'buckers. For the most part, I set it to vol noon, tones at 3 o'clock, for hairy cleans/light crunch. I roll back for clean, pedals for more gain. I like the BB preamp, great AC/DC tones there. I don't play any Who, and I don't have the Live @ Leeds album (which the Doc claims this amp can sound like), so I can't speak on that. The ZVex Box of Rock sounds good too!

Thanks for your input.
I hope Dr. Z starts making the KT-45 or 6545 again! The LE SRZ65 smokes, I'm sure. I'm looking forward to the posts on this amp.

Exteremely tight bottom end on that riff with a hint of grit in the riff.

To my ears it's pretty close. To be fair I don't know what speakers Townsend used or what specific guitar, but with my Les Paul that crunch is there. This amp is TIGHT and QUICK, even with a tube rec (I use the suggested 5AR4/GZ34. A softer rec would soften feel, naturally). My speakers are duel G12H30s (ceramic) so that adds to the tightness. The only place where things get messy is around 3 o'clock with all knobs and using humbuckers. Because it's so uncompressed and open sounding you get a lot of playing exposure, as Peach and others have attested. That slap-in-the-face metaphor used in another 45 thread really nailes the amps feel to me.

Thanks so much for doin' that for me there mate. Townsend used a Hi-Watt 100 watt head during that era and I'm pretty sure he had a quad loaded with Fane speakers as well. I could see that if your technique wasn't up to scratch how the KT45 would show up a lot of a players shortcomings being so touch sensative. Do you think a tele would be too bright through this amp? Is the top end as bright as a Maz sr? If i end up getting one I think I will use it with my Emi Red,White and Blues for Fender stuff which incidently is a speaker with one of the biggest tightest bottom ends I have ever played through and a 2x12 open back loaded with G12h(30 watt), Greenback(20 watt) for british rock with early breakup.

I think a tele would sound great. To me, single coils with this amp have such a complex tone to them that makes me want to play cleaner. The snap in the amp nicely compliments SCs too. Humbuckers are great for the crunch but I feel they need more dirt to sound good especially into the amp dry.
My Zion (strat) is very bright (maple on ash body and maple neck) and it works well for me. I'm still waiting to finish a parts-o-tele.
