Hi, My first post here i have played a SLO for yers but now i'm planing on buying a Remedy and my first single channel amp. On the SLO i have always used i clean boost in the fx loop for a volume solo boost. The Remedy does not have a fx loop so i wonder if a similar boost pedal in front will do the trick? I'm planing on use the Remedy as a clean platform and get my dirt through pedals. Music i play is everything from funk, country, rock to hardrock. Not metal is the Remedy the right way to go or is there other Dr Z amps that works better for this! Thanx Stefan from Sweden

Welcome Stefan! There is a lot of great information and great people here! I'm not sure the Remedy is going to be the clean platform you are looking for. If i were to choose something with a lot of clean headroom I think I would go with either the EZG 50 or the MAZ 38. Both of these amps have a lot of clean headroom and take pedals great! Just my opinion - others will chime in!

P.S. - the Stangray would also be a great amp as well! Good luck in your tone search!

Hi Stefan and welcome!
My first Z was a Rem and I used it as a clean platform for pedals. I set mine for 40w and kept the Vs at about 9-10 o'clock. Set like this, I was able to get a pretty clean sound out of it, especially with single coils, and it was loud enough for my needs (country band and 8 pc horn band). The Rem also has an EQ bypass that works great as a solo boost, with or without pedals.
I don't have any experience with the amps Mike is suggesting….but listen to what he says! He knows of what he speaks!

Stefan, I think you might find the MAZ 38 to be quite impressive if you still want to use an fx loop in that same way.
But perhaps also the Antidote, SRZ-65, or EZG-50 might also be suitable--they don't have the fx loop, but they're all very loud & powerful which you might be accustomed to from your SLO. (The MAZ will be loud for sure, but its EL84 power tubes give it a "feel" that I think will be very unlike the SLO. The Antidote, SRZ, or EZG might be closer.) Remedy is also very nice rock amp, and can be very loud, too.

Stefan, Welcome to Z-Talk. I've had no problems using my Remedy as a clean platform. It wasn't long after I started gigging with it that I stopped using pedals. I've found that the OD from the Remedy sounds much better to my ears than any of the dirt pedals I've tried. I still hook up the pedal board from time to time, but usually end up just plugging straight into the amp and using my guitar volume for cleans and OD.

Yeah, the Remedy is a rock machine, glorious rock machine! With the EQ by-pass I also found that I did not use any drive pedals just a boost, flying dragon baby! If you want more of a pedal plat form I would also consider any of the DR.'s EF-86 amps (route 66, Z-28, M12, other that have been mentioned above).

if I go with the OD from the amp will a boost pedal in front of the amp work as a solo boost in the same way having it in the fx loop. I want to boost the volume on solos. I have a strymon timeline, will it be good in front of the amp? thanks

A boost in front of the Remedy works great. I've found that I prefer delay after dirt in the chain. I've yet to find a delay and amp combo that I thought sounded good with the delay in front of a dirty amp. I've never tried a Timeline. I don't miss using a delay with the remedy. About the only time I use my pedal board is playing outside in an open area with nothing for the sound to bounce off of. Then I'll use a delay and dirt pedal.

Anyone knows if a Suhr Badger 30/35 have a bigger headroom than the Remedy?

I recently traded away my remedy for a 65 amps. The remedy is a great amp, built solid and ran like a champ, I loved the master volume and eq bypass. If I was to say anything negative it would be in my experience that if you run it clean with a bit of hair on it and use pedals it can be a bit finicky depending on the pedal used. Some pedals will give it a very buzzy type sound to my ears. If you are used to the SLO and like the tone then I'm not sure how much you will like the remedy. I say again this is just my opinion and I will probably buy another Z at some point but you may want to try one before you buy.
There are some clips of mine in the video section.

Stefan,
Welcome aboard, this forum is a wonderful place. Unfortunately I have never played a Remedy, but I have been using a Soldano Hotrod 25 for the last year or two. I have a Stangray, JAZ and EZG and feel like the Ray and JAZ have the best clean headroom. I tried a ton of pedals, and even rack gear to get the lead sounds in my head, but nothing really sounded amp like to me so I bought the Hotrod and A/B/Y it with the Ray and JAZ. I would take a hard look at the Therapy, especially Dave Bakers demo as that amp seems like it can really crank and with a pedal you could get it closer to SLO land. I say closer because obviously the SLO is a much higher gain amp, but that Therapy sounds pretty dang amazing and will clean up well.
Let us know what you decide.

When I had my Remedy, I used it just as you are planning to do: clean base sound plus pedals for dirt.
It worked pretty well - the Remedy has some great clean tones in it; a really underrated aspect of this amp. But, if you want REALLY clean, squeaky clean tones, it may not be what you want. The Remedy really, really wants to be a dirty amp, & if you want it to play clean at band-level volumes, you may want to experiment a bit.
I always ran at the 40 watt setting, & replaced the PI with a 5751 (as suggested by Myles, a man of much amp wisdom). That pretty much got me there.
Its a great sounding amp, my favorite so far, no matter what you use it for!
Welcome in, by the way!

I just started using a Remedy as a clean pedal platform. I set the master most of the way up and the volumes close to 9 o'clock or just above. In this fashion, I get all of my dirt from pedals. I have a ZVez Distortron that is always on and set for a light "crunchy" clean, which I hit with a Tube Screamer for more distortion and leads. I also have delays and reverbs placed after the Distortron for ambience when needed on certain songs. Sounds great to me!
