Well, since I don't have a Therapy to play through and it's just damned depressing..... thought it would be interesting to hear different Les Pauls played unplugged and recorded with your cell phone to hear how they sound differently. My R8 is on the bright side but I think quite resonant. i'll start....
and an aside.... anyone else but me constantly hitting the bridge pickup with your pick? ugh... you can hear it in the second video and it drives me nuts.

Great idea! I play electrics unplugged about 90% of the time. I don't have a Les Paul, so here's the closest I've got - my Grosh Set Neck. I started figuring out Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" last night. This was the first time I made it through the horn part without a complete train wreck (still a clam, though - natch), hence the **** eating grin at the end.

Tough tune; I'd be smiling too.
And when it comes to naked Les Pauls, my PRS SC245 sounds pretty much like the first post of the Standard on the porch (and, yes, I wallop the bridge pickup all the time).

I never hit the back pickup - for whatever reason, I almost always pick in between the two pickups. You can see that above. Strangely, when I play a Strat, I end up picking in between the neck and middle pickups for the most part, so I don't hit the middle one, either.

That Grosh you have is a nice sounding/looking guitar. very cool! and, nice work on the tune!

I'd like to hear the other pickup positions to get a more rounded taste of these guitars unplugged!!

I never hit the pups on my LP or SG but I always used to hit the middle pup on my strat. I fixed it by putting two minibuckers on the strat which I like the sound of better anyway

I'd like to hear the other pickup positions to get a more rounded taste of these guitars unplugged!! This got me thinking - I almost want to do the same thing with my other set neck guitars to get a better sense of the subtle differences in tone, unplugged. The other two guitars would be my Kauer Starliner Jr. (think LP Special - all mahogany, wraptail), and my Eastman T186 (think 335-style, but all solid, carved maple, and fully hollow) Hmmm. Maybe tonight?

Sweet guitars and nice pickin' guys!
I select an electric guitar based on how it sounds unplugged. I figure I can always adjust the electronics, but the wood/construction is something I realistically can't change.

If it sounds good without an amp, its going to sound good plugged in, too. Here's the same setup/snippet with my Eastman. It's certainly louder unplugged than the Grosh. To my ears, the Grosh sounds a bit brighter, while the Eastman sounds a bit rounder. The funny thing is they sound opposite plugged in. The Eastman is pretty bright (probably due to the all maple construction), and the Grosh is pretty warm, probably due to the mahogany/maple, and the Fralin "Dark" humbuckers.

Hey, man - the blue one is almost vintage! Phish 1995 summer tour. There are more holes than fabric at this point.

Do you have flats on the Eastman? Sounded good both times, too. I noticed they look substantially more substantial than the Grosh's strings.
