Well that's what we called it in Scouts. Grosh Bent Top Custom, neck pup -> Voodoo Lab Tremolo -> Charlene -> Airbrake -> 1x12 open back with Alnico Gold. Today Charlene gives the following advice: Master: Dimed Bass: 10 o'clock Middle: Dimed Treble: 2 o'clock Volume: 11 o'clock Airbrake: 4 clicks Charlene says you have to get the master up to get her 6L6's purring. She likes that. Strat with TremoloSorry for the length and size - I get carried away in the moment when Charlene is giving me purring power tubes...

Charlene's a big, fat, sexy girl! Love me some blues, and that's real deal right there. Very soulful playing, brother--enjoyed it a great deal.

Really nice sample. Great tone! So, you do prefer to use your Air Brake rather than going lower on the master?

Second listen. Really great tone and play. A true pleasure to my ears and a true torture for my statement (read incantation: I won't buy a Therapy cause I'm an humble living room player, plenty satisfied with my Maz 8).

Really nice sample. Great tone! So, you do prefer to use your Air Brake rather than going lower on the master? Well there is a difference between saturation in the PI and from the power tubes. It is subtle, but noticeable. I've always very much appreciated the sound of power tubes working hard. You can get that here by using the Airbrake to lower the volume to tolerable levels. Otherwise I'd be forced to play wide open - I would dig it, but there are consequences for getting that loud. Last night I did lower the master some, and raised the preamp some, and found a happy place where the tone is exquisite, and the volume is still low enough for my studio via the Airbrake. Killer!

Thanks for your explanation Steve. God I've been tempted by some amps, but this one is killing me. How long can I resist?

I've missed your audio clips, Steve. It was your old MAZ Jr and RXJr clips that originally convinced me to buy my first Z back when I was a lurker here. I'm glad to see you inspired to record and post your recordings again. (I'm still thinking I might be your illegitimate son...lol)
