Is anybody using a Celestion G10 Gold in their Z28 1x10 combo?
I'm looking to maybe change out my Ramrod; any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

When I owned a 1/10 cab I had my '28 w a gold paired and it was great. They go well together w ample volume and definition. I preferred it over the ramrod and fang.

Just for my reference, what kind of guitar(s) were you running into it, and what kind of stuff were you playing?
Thanks.

I played everything style wise since the 1/10 worked great for a HS pit band variety show and with the band I'm in doing modern rock, pop and hip hop. I used my strat, asat classic, 336, lp jr and a PRS. All of them sounded good thru the gold. The only reason I didn't keep the 1/10 package was my preference for 1/12 combos.

Thanks.
I play most of my guitars through the 28, from arch tops and bucker guitars (including a 336) and Tele.
I may order the gold.
Thanks

A 10" greenback sounds awfully good with a Z28 and lets you turn it up a bunch more than the gold.

Well, I received the Gold from Sweetwater yesterday and got it into my 28 today.
I think it's as good as everybody has been saying.

So, you like the Gold? Just curious - been runnin' with the stock-standard Z10s for the past few years, no rush to change but I am always interested to hear what other folks got goin' on with their Z-28 sound and such cheers always, eh Joel

Same question as above, what did the gold do for the Z28?

Fatter sounding, at least to my ears.

I just got home from playing a big band concert
'67 ES330 into MXR MicroAmp (for solo boost) into Z28 1x10 combo with CGold
Worked great, nothing to argue about

I've had a 10" Gold in my Z28 for awhile. Very nice change from the Red Fang. I've kept the RF in case I need some extra volume but I don't see that every happening in the near future. I get a smoother, rounder, more controllable sound.

Has anyone compared the 1x10 gold to other 12 inch speakers? Just curious. For example, how does the 1x10 gold setup sound compared to the G12H30 in a 1x12 combo?
I have never played my z-28 through a 1x12 setup, which is why i'm asking. I love how my setup sounds right now and I don't want to mess with it, but my curiosity won't let me stop thinking about a 1x12 set up. I don't want to go on this money spending journey to have custom cabs built, etc only to get a marginal benefit. Right now, I mainly play at my church and I mic my amp with an SM57. I'm thinking if anything, I will get a 1x12 cab made (for bigger churches/venues/outdoor gigs), but love the idea of a 1x12 studio cab from mather (portability), etc.
Would love to hear some of your thoughts.
Best, Hov

I've got a 4x10 with two golds and two z10s. Its not usually my favorite with the z28 (magic with m12 though),but when I do pair them the mic goes on the gold every time. The z10s have more mids and are much less bright than the golds to my ears.

Having had both the G12H30 in a 1/12 combo w my '28 & the gold 1/10 combo I'd say the difference is subtle. Both sound great but the smaller footprint of the 1/10 is good for your situation unless you have the coin to drop on a 1/12 can and want to explore the rabbit hole of various 12s w the '28. I tried a gold 12, too but felt like I already had a great sound w stock set up. I didn't care for the Red Fang 1/10 w the '28. Too much mud and chunk for 6V6s.

The more I play my Z-28 with the 1x10 gold (especially live) I wonder why I even consider switching. I definitely do NOT want to go down that rabbit hole of trying a million different 12 inch speakers. I'll always entertain potentially trading my z-28, but I don't think I could ever muster the courage to do so because I know i'd regret it. Anyway. This 10 inch gold is something else though. Love it!
