I have my recently acquired Maz 38 up for sale in the classified section but I may keep it. Ive got a 2 12 cab with a weber blue and sliver and I like the sound I use that cab with the Maz and also an original strength prescription but I would also like to have something smaller for the Maz. I was thinking of buying a j design single 12 cab. Id like to use a speaker that's got tight bottom end and maybe something that has a higher wattage so that the sound stays mostly clean. I play modern chickin pickin country.
Any suggestions?

I totally LOVE the Celestion Gold. Pricey, but incredibly good in every amp with any guitar.... Rates "5 Jalapenos" down here in San Antone.....

I use the Gold exclusively with my Sr. I wouldn't say it's got the tightest bottom end, and at first I was put off by that, but now I don't use anything else, even though I have a Z 2x10 sitting here doing nothing.

I have been thinking about a Gold as well such high reviews. I told my band I may make a speaker change and they think I am crazy the Mas and my new Therapy sounds great with the Vintage is there a pretty noticeable difference? How would you describe? Also I need more advice 8 or 16 ohm what differences does the ohm rating make. Teach me something. Thanks Guys Ray

I told my band I may make a speaker change and they think I am crazy the Mas and my new Therapy sounds great with the Vintage is there a pretty noticeable difference? How would you describe? Also I need more advice 8 or 16 ohm what differences does the ohm rating make. Teach me something. Thanks Guys Ray I had a Vintage 30 in my 1x12 convertible cab before I switched to the Gold. I really liked the V30 once it was broken in; nice tight bass, sounded good clean or driven, but I always noticed the midrange could be quite strident, even harsh at times, though that improved as I put more hours on it. The Gold has more bass, not as tight but not in a bad way, it's more chimey, and perhaps more grainy sounding. Overall it's just more characterful, more musical. Strangely, this is the second Gold I've had in that cab, and it sounds noticeably better than the first one . Don't know why, but the great reviews prompted me to try a second one and I realised what I had been missing. You need to use the Maz's 8 ohm output with your Z 1x12 cab as the V30 will be an 8 ohm one, so replace it with the 8 ohm Gold. If you wanted a 2x12 with two of them, get two 16 ohm speakers and wire them in parallel for a total of 8 ohms impedance. (1/16 + 1/16 = 2/16 = 1/8, so 8 ohms, that's how it's calculated for parallel wiring). I've never tried a single 16 ohm speaker, so can't comment, but maybe someone else can help with that. You could wire two 8 ohm speakers in parallel for a 4 ohm impedance, but I don't think you get the best out of the amp that way. Again, someone with more technical knowledge might chime in here.
