I see a few differences right off the bat: 1. 2 - 12AX7's in the Therapy. 3 - 12AX7's in the Galaxie. 2. Therapy has 1 channel. Galaxie has 2 channels. 3. Therapy has a 5AR4 rectifier. Galaxie has a 5U4. 4. Tone stack: Therapy has Bass / Mid / Treble. Galaxie has Bass / Treble. 5. Galaxie has a triode / pentode switch. 6. Galaxie is discontinued... I guess I'd like to know about the similarities and differences. I thought that they both aimed for the early Tweed tones, so I'm wondering if the Therapy is expanding on the best parts of the Galaxie, or if its a different animal all together...? I ask because I'll likely end up with one or the other (or both) at some point! Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Um...... Other than being Z-like, they're not very similar, in my mind. The Galaxie is a great amp, I had one for a couple years, but found I was using the Wreck and Remedy so much more that it was being neglected, so I let her go. To say that the Therapy expands on the Gal - I guess you could almost say that, but really, the Therapy is just a different sound, a different tone. Certainly expanded from the Gal. And at the expense of sounding like a broken record, repeating myself over and over and harping on one of the Therapy's strong points, the Therapy has a smoothness that's just so delicious and, hard to explain in words, but is so a part of what I love about this amp that it makes all other amps seem to pale in comparison. There's a richness in the Therapy that I think has to be experienced to really comprehend.
There. That wasn't helpful at all, was it?

I would have to say that the Therapy when cranked takes one part from both channels of the Galaxie and melds them into a richer/smoother sound!

Well, I finally got around to A/Bing them this evening. The Galaxie is a 1x12 combo with a G12-65 speaker. The Therapy was run through standard Z Best cab., both amps were set set with MV on 2 ((no MV on Galaxie Channel 1) B at 10:00, Mid on Therapy dimed, T at 2 for both, V at 2 for both. I used an EC Strat. The Galaxie was on pentode mode.
Much to my surprise, the Galaxie was the louder of the two amps even though it was running through a 12" speaker. The Gal was definitely much brighter than the Therapy. Even Ch 2 was much brighter than the Therapy. The Therapy was much more full and bassy (maybe the ZBest).
The Galaxie channel had more chime ; the Therapy was more touch sensitive. Definitely a big difference between the two amps. I'm gonna try them with the same speakers in the next week or so - I'll,let you know if there is still a significant difference between them.
the Therapy was definitely a richer sounding amp.

I don't have a Therapy, so I can't comment much on it. From what I've read on the Therapy threads, people compare the cleans to a Fender Twin. When set-up dirty, it can get quite dirty, but it is smooth.
The Galaxie was Doc's take on a Fender Tweed Super. Those in the know say it does this quite well - both Tweed cleans and Tweed raunchyness when cranked-up. And of course, this is just on channel 1. Channel 2 can get you from raunchy Marshall to nasally Mesa sustain. For just channel 1 alone, the Galaxie is worth the price of admission.

Here is a quick video of Galaxie vs. Therapy
1st Gal Ch1 then Ch2 then Therapy. Same setting as noted in my post above. Both through Zbest cabs. Neck pickup.

Remember, the Therapy is a cathode bias amp too with altogether different transformers. That cathode bias has a real impact on feel. My old Gibson GA-40 is cathode bias and my Galaxie is fixed. There is tweed in both though the circuits are hardly the same. I would find a Therapy at a Z dealer and see if it makes you well!
