Scored an older one on ebay for $1,100 - black tolex with the salt and pepper grillcloth. Some of y'all here helped me decide on the 18. Can't wait!
Now, for the cab. I want to build my own open back 2x12. Anyone have an recommendations on plans for one?

Good move! Now, play only the new maz for a month. Really get to know it, try your favorite pedals(they will sound better than ever). Then , a/b your other amps, they will never had sounded so bad. Next, start selling other amps. Seems scripted, but... it happens

finally came! though now I work straight till sunday 12 hour days...
I have been reading about the effects loop a little bit. I plan to run reverb, delay and tremelo through the loop. I'm reading that you need a buffer before and after the pedal chain. Is this correct? And can I use boss pedals as a buffer? I have a boss tremelo and a boss tuner.

Congrats on the new amp. You'll dig it. We're going back indoors in a week after a bunch of outdoor gigs that saw me using the Rt66. I'm looking forward to firing up the Maz jr. 10 plus years and still lovin it.

sweet picture. I don't know about the effects loop brother but it doesn't make sense to need one on both sides (in and out) I think the buffer is to prevent volume drop and signal loss and instead of Doc deciding what that would be he let's the user decide which buffer to use. I'm not sure if boss pedals cover the buffer thing or not but what did it sound like with them back there? I'm guessing you've tried it.
Sweet guitar,cab, head combo.

When using the loop it cuts a lot of clarity from the tone. I guess a buffer is in order, as everything I read suggests it.

I have found a dedicated buffer, on a very short patch cable, from the send is all that is required . I sometimes use a reverb(Carl Martin Headroom) and delay in the loop but run a 15 ft cable from the buffer to the pedals and a 15 ft back to the return. No buffer required on the return. Tried the buffer on my TC flash back and it introduces a bit of noise. My dedicated buffer has a true bypass switch and you can definitely hear the loss of clarity if you switch it off.

And a lot of the need for a buffer is the cable length that is between the two pedals. I think because every buffer has a little different tonal signature is why the amp doesn't have one built in...You may not notice the TC Electronic or Boss buffers....I don't too much just a little high end added with the TC BUT my Radial Headbone's buffer is really noticeable to me and adds more on the high end than I wanted for my short cable needs. This way you can experiment with some and see what works best for you.
JHS has a little one that seems popular and others might chime in on their favorites too if you ask.

Thanks everyone. I've heard good things about the t1m buffer. It's $39. Anyone have an opinion or can recommend others?
