I posted about this last week in the cabs/speakers section but haven't gotten any responses, so here goes:
I'm looking to take the two Vin 30s out of my cab and re-speaker it for use with my Rati v2, so I e-mailed WGS, explained the type of music I'd be playing (a four horn band I write for and co-lead a la BS&T/Tower of Power)the guitars I would be using (Guild Bluesbird/Tele/Gretsch ProJet w/ TVJones pups), and sparing use of effects.
They came back recommending a pair of their Reaper HP speakers, which I'm not familiar with, but the specs look OK and their prices are quite reasonable.
I am wondering if any of you know of or have heard the Reaper HP OR have any other suggestions for a 2x12 open back cabinet to run a Rati through.
Thanks.

My 2 personal fave speakers are the Celestion Gold, or the Eminence Delta Pro.
The Eminence has a low end response better than ANYTHING else I've ever heard. It's a copy of the Electro Voice EVM12L.
I'm not familiar with the WGS Reaper....so I can't offer my opinion....but I've heard a couple of other WGS speakers...and was never wowed.
What are you looking for (tone wise)....more bass/less bass etc....

Thanks, Jacques.
Tone-wise I'm looking for a relatively broad spectrum - tight and punchy bottom end, although not necessarily too bright on top. The band's book is sort of eclectic; we will go from Robert Cray to Miles Davis to Tower of Power, for example. Note that there is no keyboard in the band, so the rhythm section breathes a little more due to fewer instruments in the space.

Have you thought about replacing one V30 with a G12h30. They really complement each other well. I think those two together make a nice even sounding cab. I think it's a versitile combination of speakers.

mfirst,
Thanks for your post.
That's kind of why I'm asking you guys, because the WGS website contains a statement to the effect that they think the best 2x12 cabinet speaker mix they offer is their ET65 with a Veteran 30 (in Celestion terms, that translates to a G12-65 with a Vin 30).
I may ask them why the Reapers (50 watt versions of the Celestion G12H30) and not the abovementioned mix was recommended.

Hard to beat the tried and true Weber Silver Bell \ Blue Dog combination for an el-84 amp. Choose the wattage and magnet type to suit your needs and budget.
