I don't have weigh scales at home so have no idea how much my guitars weigh I have been offered a Dean Zelinsky Private Label Strettavita at a ridiculous price, and am very tempted! It weighs 8.1 lbs approx, but I have no idea if that is considered heavy or not.........

Les Pauls are between 8-10 puonds so IMHO this would be a light LP.

Mine is 9.3 and feels great. If yours is truly 8 you have either a very special guitar or it's chambered or weight relieved. Also, some non Gibson LP style guitars are not as thick front to back.

Mine is right around 8 pounds or so. Sounds like a great weight.

That's an easy weight to handle, and probably pretty close to the weight of your LP Special.

Yup, not bad at all. My old R8 was closer to 9lbs, and didn't feel bad at all on the strap. My Grosh set neck is right at 8.5 lbs.

My R8 (unchambered) is smack on 9 lbs but feels very light compared to my 79 custom which is way over 10 lbs. This was originally closer to 11 lbs but now sporting lightweight tailpiece, new pots ,so all the weight has gone from the original screening plates and the big metal jackplate tin. My Corsa Manalishi Les Paul is 8 lbs 4 oz but chambered but feels similar to the R8 in balance/weight. I have said this before but the 79 wins hands down in terms of resonance through the body and neck despite its mass its a very lively guitar.

Save your money Pete and wait and find yourself another nice Gibson...JMO Hmm, I need 10x the money for that! I reckon I could just do both....... the Zelinsky is only £300! I could buy that, enjoy it, say a LOT of pennies for the Gibby, and probably still sell it for £100............ it could take me a couple of years to save for a decent Gibby........

My R7 weighs 9.2 pounds. I've always thought it's about right for a Les Paul.

My standard faded (2008), which is chambered, LP is just under 7 lbs! Amazing for an LP, as most of the standard fadeds check in between 7 and 8 lbs. My 1979 25/50, on the other hand, was around 10 lbs. It was sold.

Just weighed my 1978 Standard...10.4 pounds! ha.... yep. i sold my 77 standard a few years back. i'm guessing it weighed as much as yours. It was as heavy as a boat anchor and way too bright sounding.
