What I meant about the knobs going to 10 on a compressor is that I've jammed with some guys that tried so hard to have their compressor pedal set so you couldn't tell they were using one. Kind of defeats the purpose of an "effect" pedal if it has no discernible effect on your signal. My "purpose" behind using the compressor is to emulate the natural tube compression you get with your amp cranked up...since I can rarely ever play my amp cranked enough to get much of that natural tube compression, I substitute some pedal compression instead. And like some have suggested, I now have both my drive pedals in FRONT of the compressor.

I've got an Empress Compressor. It does a really great job, you can blend the amount of compression with the original signal.

Gotta say I love my AnalogMan Comprossor. I don't use it for any extreme settings, just some mild compression. Really adds a little sparkle to my tone though.
