I went to an open jam last night and brought the Galaxie. The amp sounded killer! I didn't use any pedals and I got all the sounds I wanted. Later in the night I let a friend play my guitar through my amp and it was really cool to hear my rig from out front. The amp wasn't as loud as I expected though. I started with the air brake on 3 and went to 1 and I probably could have gone to true bypass. Both of my amp volumes were at about 1:00. My old Maz would have been blowing the doors out of the place.
I've only had the Galaxie for a couple days but I really like it. I am very glad I decided to try another Z!

I have had 2 MAZ-18JR's and they weren't anywhere near as loud as the GALAXIE! When you said your MAZ would be blowing the doors out of the place you must be talking about a MAZ38-SR! I am extremely happy with my GALAXIE 1X12 combo! I have seen your postings since you got your GALAXIE and couldn't tell if you got a combo or a head and cabinet?

Thanks hdahs143! GIBBYMY335, yes I had a Maz Sr. When I brought it to a jam, I had to set the volume so low that if I turned it much more, it would basically turn off! I didn't have an air brake then I have a Galxie 1x12 combo and I set both volumes at around 1:00. I started with the air brake on 3 then went to 2. It still wasn't overly loud (in this particular club). When I let my friend play it, the air brake was on 1 and it was just loud enough. I didn't find the band to be obnoxiously loud either. The next time I hit that jam, I'll set my volumes at 1:00 with the air brake on 0 then, if I'm too loud, I'll back off. I've been playing the amp a lot at home and it does seem plenty loud - but not a monster like my Maz Sr was. Also, I've been using triode but if I switch to pentode there seems to be no difference whatsoever... what should I notice when I switch between the 2 modes? More headroom? More volume? Again, I'm really happy with the amp... I just need to get more aquainted with it. Jay

Jay, again, gotta say thanks for the details - am currently weighing out the options between a Galaxie and a Stang Ray (heck, who am I kidding, I am also thinking about some others too) keep on with the field reports - they are a big help cheers, eh Joel p.s. that Suhr guitar is sweeee-t!

jcv, To my ears the Triode setting gives a more percussive tweedy tone particularly when playing through channel 1. The Pentode setting to me smooths the upper mids and high end out for more of a modern 6L6 tone! All of my playing through my GALAXIE 1X12 combo has been at my apartment and I have consequently been playing mostly through the killer channel 1 with its addictive clean and moderate overdriven tones that it gives up! But man every time I do kick the foot-switch and engage Channel 2 it puts an instant smile on my face! Of course I have the AIRBRAKE to tame it with!I am looking forward to using my "LUXURY DRIVE CLEAN BOOST" pedal to bump Channel 1 and 2 and see what the "GAL" gives up! ;D Based on Doc's info the PENTODE settings produces about 40 watts of output power versus the TRIODE setting with about 30 watts! Which explains why to most people your not going to hear or perceive the PENTODE setting to be louder than TRIODE setting! I believe that the TRIODE setting gives up the best clean tones on channel 1! The jury is still out on the PENTODE AND TRIODE settings and which is the best for Channel 2!
