Maybe a stupid question, but here goes. Given the fact that NOS tubes was much closer to spec then new production ones, should I expect much of a difference in output from a NOS 5751 compared to a new production 12AX7?
The question comes from the fact that I wan't to try a lower output tube in the reverb recovery slot of my Maz Jr. to reduce the output from the reverb (the reverb sounds great, but I would like the reverb knob to be less like an on/off switch, and having more control of the "wet" part of the mix). (Btw, I have both a NOS JAN GE 5751 and a NOS JAN GE 12AY7 on the way to test with)

NOS 5751's were supposed to have a gain of about 70 and they did.
12AX7s are supposed to have a gain of 100 and most don't and fall into the 75-85 range most often.
BUT .... just because the gain may be the same the TC or MC may not, plate resistance may not, current output may not, so they are going to react differently.
Go ahead and try the 5751.
