I have the combo headed my way and I will put it through its paces. But while I wait, what are some of your favorite settings?

Lots of them Had everything near or a bit above 11 (o'clock, not Spinal Tap'd) last Saturday for a gig. LP and pedals. Had the Brake Lite on 3, in part because I didn't bother to lower output levels on the pedals. (They were tweaked for a different rig.) Guitar volume generally between 8 and 9. I mainly used the pedals to get a base tone for a specific song and worked the guitar knobs and pickup selector for the needed variation within a tune. Base tone on some songs was just straight in.

Just remember, the tone controls are very interactive and unlike any amp I've ever played. As you turn up the Treble and Bass, individually, the mids decrease. Roll them back and the mids come back.

Are they similar to Doc's other Bass/Treble tone stacks? In that, as they are increased past noon they add gain? I know this is the case with the Z28, M12, KT45, Route 66. I haven't seen this mentioned for the Wreck so I assumed they were "normal" tone knobs.

No....almost opposite. Clockwise add more bass or treble, and less mids...

Wreck + Therapy will cover a huge swath of tone.

Wreck + Therapy will cover a huge swath of tone. Well it only seems proper - a Wreck and an American voiced "wreck". But first I will have to recover from the Wreck acquisition. Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Proboards

I am now Wreckless, but very content in Therapy.......
I'll also add that the Z Wreck combo is the most 3D amp I've ever played! Sound swirls around from everywhere!! Front, back, TOP and radiates through the thin walled, resonant cab as well. I hope to see other Z amps released with this style cab......hint hint!!!!

I know it's not the same but Peter Mather is your friend! I had already ordered a wreck style combo cab for the Therapy until I decided on getting the Wreck first. The order is now canceled but it would have made a great Therapeutic grab-n-go. Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Proboards

Yes, Mr Mather is my friend. No need for a Therapy grab n go right away....I'll wait on Doc for that. But he is building me special pine cab. More details on that in another thread in several weeks....... Enjoy that Z Wreck!!!

10:30 on the V T @ 12:00 B @ 11:00 Cut @ 2:00 BL@ 2 clicks These work well if I need to keep the volume down. I'll use a Timmy for some hair, or an EP Boost if I want to jump out. Seems to work great w/ my LP, SG and Strat.
I prefer these settings, though: 1:30 V T @12:00 B @ 11-1 depends on which guitar Cut @ 2 for strat or 3 for LP BL on one click This setting provides the most touch response and natural articulate breakup--the exact sound I have had in my head for a while. Especially w/ my LP--I can use my GV and Tone knobs to get such a wide range of sounds! It has been an amazing 2 months with my combo. Literally made me a better player because it's almost as if it just wants you to play plugged straight in.
I agree w/ markT--so much 3D sound happening on this amp--I don't even turn on my reverb pedal anymore and have only used delay if a song really called for it. I think you are gonna be stoked, man.
And, FWIW, I run a Timmy with the gain set pretty low most of the time--it's more for a bit of a "goose" on the tubes.
Enjoy!

I noticed today that the treble is different in this amp than other amps I've had?? It does almost a sweep of high frequencies as it increases them, I've never noticed that until today.

What little I was able to play it yesterday evening I noticed a few things. Like Mark said, the mids increase as the treble is decreased. I'll have to play with the controls some more but they are very responsive, I've noticed. I'll see if I notice what you hear telejas.

I agree with the 3D comments that have been made here. I'm really loving the tone of the Wreck, it's not like anything else I have played (even the 'Ray, which was good too, just different). So far I've just stayed in comfort, which I think will work best for the majority of my gigs. It's really easy to dial in a great sound, and there are many sounds to be had. I like that it can be bright and clear (in a good way!), yet still sound so full and fat.
I want to use it at a gig tomorrow night but I'm a little hesitant just because I haven't been able to spend much time with it. But based off of what I've heard so far, I could use my regular pedalboard setup and use the Wreck as a clean platform without any issues. OK, I think I just talked myself into using the Wreck! LOL.

Have you tried the brake lite with it yet? I usually run mine at 2 or 3 clicks for the casino gigs.

Sure did. 3 clicks works pretty good. Depends on where the volume is set though. And it didn't seem to alter the sound as much as it does on other amps. I can only go 2 clicks max on my Maz Jr brake-lite, past that it really changes the tone and gets compressed sounding. Must be a Wreck thang.
My ultimate goal with the Wreck is to be able to eliminate the majority of my pedals. That's probably going to take some time for me to adapt to.

I got mine and 2 days later filled in for a guitars in my old band (I hadn't played with for 4 years). I had no idea on how loud to play it or anything, but took an educated guess and it all came out fine. Hind-sight, I should have put just a hint more "hair" on it, but it was all good in the end and only I noticed it. Just happened to record that night, here it is... I'm the one you hear the most at first until the 2nd (full) song, then the Twin/Strat guy gets a little louder: soundcloud.com/tele_jas/aldean-mash-up . I'm using a Wampler Plextortion here, which I traded later because it was too "fizzy" for me. I get to do the cool break down (@ 2:39), but gets a little crowded when everybody kicks in. Using mine in 4 hours for a big outdoor event for about 700 people and then again in 28 hours at a bar that holds about 70 people.

Not sure of the capacity of the venue tonight. Maybe 200 max. But yea, I'm taking the Wreck. I played it for a while last night experimenting with different settings. It's super easy to dial in a good sound.
One setting I found plugged straight in with my Crook Tele (with Florance Voodoo Nocasters), I really liked:
V - 1:00 T - 9:00 B - 1:00 C - 11:00-12:00
My treble setting seems extreme compared to the others listed here but I've had Z's amps long enough to not use my eyes to set EQ. This setting brought out the mids a little and gave up a nice fat OD sound.
Telejas: It almost seemed to me that the higher I turn the treble control, the thinner the tone gets. I thinks that's what you were hearing as well, correct? And the Aldean mashup was a cool piece. I'm hoping I can grab some video of tonight's gig.

After the first gig, I'm really liking the Wreck combo. The Tele and Strat both sounded great and the Wreck cuts through the mix like nothing else, in its own way that is. I'm always unsure of my sound out front as we use in ear monitors, but after reviewing some video I am a believer - no need to worry.

It's funny you say "the Wreck cuts through the mix like nothing else"....
This past weekend when I was playing (both shows), my other guitarist has a 150wt amp - he had it up about 2/3 the way. It's a solid state amp, but still LOUD as heck! I had my Wreck at about 10:00 with the brake lite on 1 click down and was told I was "louder than the band", so I knocked it down another click on the BL and they said I was still too loud. So I had to get my plexi-glass shield out and use it.
So, yeah.. The Wreck cuts!
Glad to hear you're happy with it!

Here's how I'd put it: the Z Wreck occupies its space in the soundscape and isn't going to give it up without a fight

Gretsch Panther and TV Jones Classic's:
Volume: Noon Bass: 1:30 Treble 3:00 Cut: Noon to 3:00 depending on building
Scero Jazzmaster with J90's: Volume: 1:30-2:30 Bass: 1:30 Treble: 2:00 Cut: same as above
Scero Tele:
Volume: 2:00 Bass 1:00 Treble 1:00 Cut: 11:00-1:00
I do think my Z Wreck is darker than others. Having everything at noon is supper muddy no matter the pickups. I also like crisp notes that are very articulate. No dull notes for me.
