Let me start by saying that my Z-Wreck cab has 1 Celestion Gold and 1 Weber Alnico Blue Dog (30w).
I just acquired an amp that has a Celestion Gold in it. I don't think I'm going to keep the amp I just acquired (not enough headroom), so I'm thinking about putting the Gold in my Z-Wreck cab and putting the Weber Blue in the other amp.
So.....How would two Golds sound in the Z-Wreck cab?? Better than a Gold and a Weber Blue Dog? Different than a Gold and a Celestion Blue? I'm sure I could find someone to trade me a Celestion Blue for a Gold if that's the magic combination.

I wanted to yank the Blue out and replace it with a Gold in my first Z Wreck silver set, but didn't want to mess with the Doc's recipe. So I sold that amp and bought a Wreck head and ran it through two 1-12 Z cabs...both with Golds. Now that's what I'm talking about! Shaved just a sliver off the very very top, but added a little firmness in the low's. I liked it better.
Steve Miller runs his Z Wreck with two Golds...
I have no experience with the Blue Dog, but have heard it doesn't have the super high end brilliance of a Blue.

I can't imagine two golds not sounding great. One thing I do like about having a blue is that it gets pushed quicker than a gold. Which isn't a bad thing, just depends on what you want. If you're after max headroom then yeah, two golds will be better because that blue will start breaking up before the gold. And like Mark said, golds have a tighter and more substantial low end. Never hurts to try it. And your cab may get just a tad bit louder because the gold is more efficient than the Weber.

Two golds in mine, wouldn't have it any other way.

Well.... I put two shows on it this weekend. An outdoors show and then an un-mic'd show, so I got to turn up a little more than usual (brake-lite wise anyways).
I love the sound of two Golds! And, yes I did have to turn the treble up just a little more than usual.

Nice! Based off of what I've been hearing in the Wreck combo, I knew that two golds would be even better. Love the gold with the Wreck - I think they were made for each other.
