Here's a little demo I did - my first ever! I'm switching back and forth from the Therapy to an old 1953 Twin Amp as a comparison, at about equal volumes. Same TLM193 close mic on each into an API mic pre, and a room mic about 8 feet away. Used a Voodoo Lab Amp Switcher to do the switching, and I'm kinda pointing the guitar neck at the amp that's playing at any given time - (confusing, I know). That's a parts Tele with Jason Lollar pickups in it. No pedals, straight into the amp via the Voodo Lab switcher. Tried to play similar material through each amp to compare and contrast. A little geeky, I admit.

p.s. make the video full screen and you can see the Therapy settings. p.s.s see posting below that is actually the correct recording described above. dang. it's so easy to look like an idiot here.

Very cool demo and comparison. To say the Doc makes modern classics is no hyperbole - here is the proof!

The Twin has the original old Jensens 2 12's. The Therapy is playing through that Z Wreck cab - gold/blue Celestions. The Twin is a bit brighter with a different midrange hump, but they both respond pretty similarly to touch and guitar volume changes. In my experience, every amp sounds different - even the same model from the same year - so other Twins will vary from this. And this is the VERY low powered Twin - about 25 watts. The next iteration of that amp in 1954 was like 50 watts! Very different sounding (I never shoulda sold that 1956 I had! Idiot!). I'm still completely loving this Therapy. It's every bit as fun as that Twin, which has been one of my three favorite amps of this lifetime.

Interesting how close sound with entirely different speaker types, be cool to hear A/B using the same speakers.

Very nice jj, thanks for posting it. Great comparison I think. My initial thoughts, the Fender Twin sounds very authentic early blues tones, bit looser, the Therapy is a very similar to an early Led Zep blues tone a touch more articulation and bite.
Both amps share common warm creamy tones.

Thanks Doc!
And great idea Stan! I'll see if I can get around to trying these two amps through similar cabs. If it seems significant, I'll try to run off another video.
And also of note: that Twin won't really get louder than that, just a bit more nazzy and mushy with turning the volume up. But that Therapy has a buncha room - the MV is on 11:30 and the volume is on 2:00. So there's a bit more nazz in that volume knob and a lot more volume in that master volume knob! Not to mention more 6L6 saturation! Cool!

Hold it, Hold it, Hold it!!!!! Um...... because I'm an idiot, and because this is the first video I've ever made and posted, I screwed it up royally! The video above is straight off my iPad recorded by the iPad mic, NOT recorded with real mics and in Pro Tools. (Did I mention I'm an idiot?) So now that I've figured it out, I think the following vid is the one with the High Fidelity recording with TLM193 mics into API preamps and a Neuman U87 room mic that should be listened to with headphones (and get your headphones on right because I panned the amps a little to each side to make it clearer which amp you're hearing). Oddly enough, I'm not sure it adds that much more to the demonstration of Therapy vs Tweed Twin than the original posting did. Here it is, nonetheless. (I think.) jj

Is the Master on the Therapy way down on this clip?

Master's about 11:30, volume is at about 2:00-2:30. Plenty of headroom here. Dial volume back to 11:00 and this amp is purty dern clean. But Even this overdrive at volume 2:30 is smooth as silk! As the Doc points out, the old tweed amp is looser, with less articulation. This therapy is way more versatile in what it can do, especially with the master volume. I should do another video with the tone controls adjusted so the amps sound about the same (instead of this one with the twin in its sweet spot), and with similar speaker cabs.
