Man, I was preparing my Step Dads old Dynaco PAS tube preamp and power amp he hand built from a kit in 1959-60-61. I opened up the preamp and it has four old tubes marked Dynaco ecc83/12ax7 . I researched them and found out that they are Telefunkens with the Dynaco label on them. Well, I started by putting one into the V4 slot of my Mesa Triaxis preamp thats in my rack rig. I have selected proven NOS tubes in V1-V2-V3 but have not got around to replacing V4-V5. Well I have to say that I put one in V4 and the results were sweet and nice, then I tried another in the same spot and it was the same but a tad brighter, then I tried another in the same V4 spot and MAN DOES IT WAIL!!!! Wow, I am completely just floored by this one tube. I gotta try them in my Maz Junior and Senior now........WOW!!!!! I'm not kidding!

Hey Cheycaster, nice to hear what NOS tubes can do. The only thing I learned is to find the right tube for the right amp but then it wails.

I agree. If it's old or brand new: if sounds good then it is good, if it dont then it dont! I had a silver long plate EI in that spot and it sounded really good but this old tube just has theat certain mojo ya know. It's like it must be a true gain of 100 vs. the others of 80 even tho they are all 12AX7's........I know at one time I had a Rivera Quiana amp and I had put an old Mullard I found in my moms old Hammond organ and man that made that amp do the Santana thing killer, but every other tube I put in it did nothing at all to change it....And that same tube did nothing for any other amp including my Maz Junior, I'm still stumped over that one but I have learned that when there a good'n man they really shine!
