I've been thinking about getting a new 'Z' companion to my RxES, and the KT-45 is an amp that has always seemed really appealing to me - I used to have a few EL34 amps and I miss that authoritative steely tone. I've heard that the 45 has loads of clean headroom, but I'm curious about how much overdrive it can dish when you finally get the volume really happening. I'm in a loud band so I could really get it going. Does it have as much gain when cranked as the Rt 66 or the RxES?
Thanks!

It's doesn't have the gain of a Rt 66, I'm not sure about a RxES, I've never played through one. But I really doubt it though as the RxES has the built in overdrive available. I tried the Rt 66, before purchasing my KT45, and I thought it was a little flubby in the bass with my playing style. I use 3 to 5 distortion/overdrive/fuzz pedals to get different types of gain, as the KT45 is pretty clean unless you run it with a Airbrake/Hotplate type devise. Then it creates gobes of power tubes distortion, which is cool is thats what you want. I had a Hotplate and sold it as I liked the sound of the KT45 with my pedals better. I play everything from Jazz to Very hard rock bordering on metal, and with the right pedals the KT45 is my perfect amp. I thought that the 6545 might have been a better choice soon after buying the KT45, but I found the AC booster from Xotic gives me that Marshall grind I was missing, and I still get those great cleans from the KT45. And the KT45 is the loudest amp I've ever owned, and it does this great "Harmonics on steroids/overload when pushed to distortion thing" like no other amp I've every had. How's that for a run on sentence. It really reminds me of my old Hiwatt Classic 50, but cleaner and more AC30ish, just like the good Doctor says on his website. Matt

So...it can get Marshally crunch? I have p90s so hitting the front end wouldn't be a problem - and I could get away with cranking it all the way. I don't need liquid high-gain - just some good old-school british crunch.
