Just got it yesterday, got about three hours on her and WOW !
Tonight ran it through my open back Z cab with greenbacks and it's a match made in heaven. With a Strat all I could think was "Stevie Ray needed this" !!!
I have yet to run a single dirt box into this amp, not sure I will either, it is so very cool, nice and crispy top end with just a touch of grind, I've been gushing over the 66 but this lil sleeper may take first spot.
Funny thing is, after owning most of the Z line over the last couple of years, when I first contacted Doc with what I wanted, he suggested the KT 45 ! I though it'd be too loud but now I think It'll work just fine. I'll know more this weekend.

Well I care! I love EL34's and I was tossing up between the 45 and 66 when I first was looking at Z amps, but I really wanted a KT66 amp. It's perfect for my gig but I'm starting to feel the pangs for a 6545 for cover gigs. Figure that would cover it all. I'm interested in the Stingray/45 comparison too. Curt, I'm sensing a Delta in your future....I think you're just a big bottle kinda guy! ;D

C'mon Curt...you're killing me! ;D I'm just getting settled in to my Route 66 and now I read this. I've got to stop coming to this forum...causes WAY too much GAS.
Seriously, glad it's working out for ya. I'm sure there's ultimately one in my future as well. And don't forget about the Z 6L6 on the horizon!

I'll second the BMF status! I recetly acquired a 6545 and my main goal was the 65 side, but the 45 side has been a very pleasant surprises! It Rocks. I run the tones full up and the volume about half and its got plenty of grind! I'm using a stock Z Best and playing rock covers and love the thing. The 6545 is the best amp Ive ever owned!

OK boys, I feel better now ! In the RXES thread someone called the RXES "The most under rated Z"....may be...but there's a lot less KT 45's out there and this thing makes me happy !!! We'll see over the long haul as I am as flighty as they come....Got to play her tonight at full band practice...nice..nice..nice spot in the mix, I was thinkin about an RXES as of late but the little glass does not do it and this is what I was hoping for with the RXES. Bill, I can especially hear your chops with this rig...sorry but it's true. It has SPANK, grind and sustain, it is more controlable with the guit volume knob than even the 66 IMO, YMMV. ERIC had a "Bad Monkey" he was not using so I threw it in and hit it for solos nice !! The RC boost is not nearly as impressive with this amp as all the others I have tried it with....I think it is because the amp is so very close to what I want to hear. I had my 'ray only a short while and never gigged it but this is as good, or for me, better clean than the 'ray. I LIKE this amp so far. Jaye....you NEED one Bro The note seperation and detail is unrivaled....or...I finally figured out to play !! And for the "Where" question.......fleabay. Keep Pickin' yawl, Curt

I've just realized my 45 is working and it's been over a month since I've last played through it, so I'm getting reaquainted with mine too. I totally agree it's a nasty mutha lol. I just got my hands on a good strat for the first time (my Zion) and I hear ya on the SRV comment! Even with a tube rec it's punchy with good sparkle. If your ears can handle it, try it with your RI '58 with all controls at 3 o 'clock. It's sweet P.S. Throw a Rangemaster in the mix and watch out! It could cut your head off!

Oh you S.O.B#ches!!!
I just don't want to hear this about this amp. Every time I tell myself,no George, you have enough gear, your credit card is bleedin' you guys go and start threads like this and I just want real bad. The 45' was the one that got me interested in 'Z's" from the start but I went with a supposedly more versatile Maz 38 and then got the little studio gem "the Carmen Ghia". I'm a real rocker at heart though, nothing gets me harder than moving some serious air and the thump you get in the back of your legs from a greenback loaded quad, tuning down and letting rip on a good L.P,strat or tele for that matter ala The Who's "Magic Bus" for example. Now you guys are telling me it's good for SRV as well!
I just want one of em' real bad

Sorry George !! I would love to turn time back and get Stevie crankin' through this amp and a pair-O-Greenbacks !!! Sounds nice with other speakers, but KILLS with 2xGreenies Played it through a single g12H at practice last night and that worked pretty well too, it is one of the more speaker picky Z amps I've tried IMO. I've not been a 2x12 guy but things may change !! Underrated is an understatement...but I will say, this amp IS NOT for everyone. It has a top end bite Albert Collins ish with a Z sprinkle IMO. Harmonics in spades. But ya'll know me...check back in a month !! LOL

LOL !!!
RC I'd love to keep it but don't want to break the set, It's yours as promised.
BUT...I may very well order a new one in Black/Salt & Pepper !! It sounds Sooooo good with the KT 45.
If you decide you do not want the cab (that would be silly) then I will crank and smile !

How bright is it? My upper frequencies in my ears aren't what they used to be after spending some of my youth in the army. Ive got friends who tell me my tone is a little "ice picky" with my Telecaster into my Maz sr. Is it much brighter than that? thats a cool tone but I still like that big clang and thump you get with EL 34's as opposed to the smaller EL84 chime. I had an old JMP 50 watter that used to make that glasses on peoples tables shake but gone are those days, because of noise limits in venues these days I want something that is practical and not just suited to those outdoor type gigs. Because of heavy customs and shipping costs, getting an amp sent from the USA to me here in Australia and then deciding I don't like it is a costly exersise. In saying that though I already have 2 "Z's" and love them both. "PEACE" "After spending a few years in the Army I realized how futile and pointless the whole stupid thing really is. I hope and pray everyday for an end to the war and a safe return to all your and our people serving in Iraq."

George, It's bright in a very pleasing and wonderfull way. I thought the MAZ Sr was bright and I have learned I am just not an EL84 guy. The "Crushed Glass" moniker is as close as I can get to what it is. I can see it not being for everybody and would hate for you to be disappointed, but for me, for now "This is it". Here's something I have not mentioned, this is the best amp I have played for neck pick ups, no kidding, that top end makes a Tele, Strat or Lester neck pup fat and clear, then throw over to the bridge for squeels and harmonics. I've been staying on the bridge for a long time as the neck position get's lost in the mix, I think I found the answer. Really excited about next w/e gigging it with both bands, then I'll have a better/clearer picture. I have a LTD SRZ reserved but am wondering "WHY" right now. Another note, the transformer is way smaller than the one in the Route 66, guess that explains the less low end...but..makes for a lighter and easier to pack in at 3:00am amp

I've never been a big bridge pickup user. On a strat it always seemed a little thin for me so I chose the imbetween being a big Knopfler fan and occasionally going for the middle like Jimmy Vaughn but mainly the neck was where it was at for me on a strat. On a tele, thats a different story especially with a fat broadcaster/early 50's style pickup but still flick imbetween the 2. On a L.P thats a totally different story but I'm mainly a strat player so the more you tell me how good this amp is the more i want it. I think if the late great S.R.V was still with us it would definately have been his "Z' of choice by the sounds of it.
There is a 65/45 on the bay' right now, I haven't really got the $$$ at the moment but that option is a serious consideration as well. There seens to have been a lot of those listed lately for some reason. Along with the ear bleeading RX ES this could be the Docs most versatlie amp. Im not big on knobs and footswiches, too many choices if you ask me but the 65 sides sounds ;ike it could nail all your spandex wearing 80's stuff that the JCM 800 was good for and the 45' the cleaner JMP earlier retro stuff ofthe 70's. Thats a great gigging amp in my books if you are doing heaps of covers. Only downside is a solid state rectifier, I like the more vintage sag feel of a tube rectifier. Don't be too suprised though if you see me add one of these to my gear list if i pick one up for a good deal.
Keep on pickin'

tele62, they are already taking reservations on the new SRZs? And no one told me?? Yes Sir, Back when Myles started his sign up list, Doc agreed to a 25 pc. limited run, 5 to each of his top 5 dealers. I was on the list and contacted Stu @ Fatsound right away, I was reservation # 3 then !!! Were you on Myles list ? If so drop a note to Doc and see what the 5 dealers are, if not, still ask doc as some may be available. Won't be delivered 'til after the first of the year some time is the last I know.

Keep on pickin' I feel the KT 45 would have put a huge grin on Stevie's face ;D I too like the neck, 2 & 4 pos. on a strat, but with the KT it's sooo much better ! Clear and FAT..very nice. Also, Mine has the tube rec and #7 EL34LS, I can't see changing a thing....and that my friend, is a first. Best of luck, Curt

George: When your friends say it's a little ice-picky, keep in mind they're in front of your amp. If you were where they are you'd turn the treble down too. I've always set my amp for what seems to be a dark tone to me because I'm so close I'm hearing it off-axis where the highs are naturally diminished.
