I've been trying to match up my Monza and Ghia so that they have more tonal connection in an ABY setup and it finally just hit me. The Ghia has the 5751 in V2 and my Monza is running 2 12AX7's that's why the gain is different in character. Welp I swaped out the ol' 12AX7 with my backup 5751 and it really rounded off the tone and felt like it made it thicker too. This amp is really fun and has had a big impact on how I hear overdriven guitar in my head now. Who else is running the Monza a little different ? Keep Monza-ing my Zeople

I have a spare NOS JAN Philips 5751 sittin' around, and I keep telling myself I need to try it in my Monza--but I just haven't gotten around to doing it. I was thinking of trying it in V1, actually, however since you point out the 'Ghia comparison, maybe I'll have to try it in V2 also (5751 in V2 of my Ghia made a big difference). One of these days...

One of these days... today is the day, if you hear the voice inside saying 'try that 5751 in your Monza onza nza za a a a'. Listen my brothren It felt like I went from ZZ Top with 12ax7 to Black Keys with 5751 and the tone feels like big bottle overdrive instead of preamp overdrive...I feel like i just feel in love with the Monza. It IS true...it's not what's on the outside but what's within that makes a woman.

^ Wait, I didn't say that..!
On the other hand, I'm okay with women--Marianne or Ginger, doesn't really matter...

I played with tubes on both of my Monza's and ended up liking the factory tubes best but I wasn't trying to match the tone of another amp. My favorite set was a 1x10 Monza next to a 1x10 Z28 and a ABY box in front of them. Todd
