I feel like I should only be using it to boost for leads. When I put my KoT or other drive pedals in front to push it with eq on, it just doesn't sound as good to me. It's thicker, fuller, and has more gain just bypassed for both rhythm and leads.
I took the advice of someone here and turned the HI Vol all the way up. Sounded great! I backed it off to about 3:00 and now have the LOW Vol almost all the way off (from 9:00). So basically, all I'm using on this amp is the HI Vol and MV.
Does the volume also act as a tone?
I guess I'm just surprised that I'm only using one knob, and that one knob gives me all that. I guess I shouldn't be, cause I do own a ghia.

Sounds like the way I used to set my Vs on my Remedy (maybe it was my advice? Who knows?) The EQ circuit is deductive on the Remedy, so it removes the freq range applicable to it, however, even if you max all the EQ knobs, the signal path still goes through some components on the way to the power section, which has an effect. By bypassing the circuit altogether, ALL of the signal hits the power section That's the very special "thing" going on in the Doc's head IMHO - his unreal minimalist ability to create MONSTER tone from as few components as possible! Just about all of my favourite Z amps are the 2-3 knob ones........ (exceptions being the Remedy, but with the EQ bypassed; and ironically, my favourite of all, the Therapy which has 5 knobs, but my EQ knobs are all set about noon anyway! I'll bet even that amp could easily sing with no EQ section at all!) As you say, you're a Ghia man too, so you get it! Just close your eyes, and play that Remedy with your ears, and forget those EQ knobs even exist - fantastic amp!!
