Any NWOBHM (edit: New Wave of British Heavy Metal, roughly 1979 through the mid 1980's) fans in Z-Land? If so, what do you like (besides Bruce Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon)? SO MUCH of it out there. Discovering it is a sheer joy. Although there are thousands, I'll start off with Iron Maiden's 1st (WOW WEEE), a terrific album all the way through==I skip none of that one. Battleaxe "Power From the Universe" is another.

I have no idea what NWOBHM means, but Iron Maiden is fun to listen to.

New Wave of British Heavy Metal--late '70s thru early '80s. I assume that's what he meant. (I confess, I had to look it up.

Very Very Sorry, I initially thought of defining it in the query. I'll correct that oversight. It was a very exciting period for music of all styles. New Wave of British Heavy Metal--to replace "the Old Guard"--Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin (although Zeppelin defies classification)

Personally l would say the likes of Purple,Sabbath,Zeppelin,Uriah Heep etc are irreplaceable and we will never see or hear their like again.

I also agree with greenblues and maddog. It's hard to break away from your roots. I too am old.

Don't like to think of myself as old just yet just well run in! I have two sons 22 and 24 who have progressed from my "teaching of the classic's" to the likes of the next generation of so called metal and beyond into all sorts of thrash and modern metal. They both play guitar, along with other instruments, but l rarely hear anything from their music collections that makes me sit up and take note as a guitar player myself. Certainly not in the way Page,Iommi,Blackmore etc did and still do. Yet the current crop of upcoming british blues players ,like Aynsley Lister,Oli Brown ,Matt Schofield certainly do with command of the instrument and though you can hear their influences a fresh and exuberant performance.

Oh I TOTALLY agree. Iommi is my favorite, bar none. Schenker is right up there too, neck-in-neck, I'd say. Kossoff too (but he wasn't metal). Page, well he's page. No one will ever do what he did. Copy, yes, but that's about it. No my friends, I didn't mean to imply that NWOBHM replaced those masters. Indeed, the late 1960's through mid 1970's is my favorite era of music. Rather, it was the next step in evolution of heavy rock, which then led to thrash.
