Hi,
I'm a newbie that just got a Maz Jr head w/verb a couple of days ago. I don't want to go for the NOS rectifier cause they are so damn expensive, which probably makes my choices a JJ GZ34 or an equivalent Webber Copper cap. I like a little clean headroom and a mellower high end. What do you all prefer?
Thanks, Beau

Hey Beau, I was surprised how good the Weber Copper cap sounded in my Maz 18. If you don't want to go NOS I would recommend you put the GZ34 model of Weber in and give it a try. I'm pretty sure Buddy Whittington uses one of these in his Maz 38, and he always sounds great.

I spoke to buddy whittington on the 6th mayall played the keswick theater in philly,I told him of my rectifier problem kep't blowing fuses you know the story. He told me he uses a groove tube solid state rectifier and has had no problems ever since. I installed a weber copper top in my invasion problem gone. Hope this helps George

The Groove Tubes model is another fine product. Its sound is a little different as compared to the Weber. The difference is mostly in the area of the sag... the Weber has just a little extra sag and maybe a bit smoother. Either one is worth a try for sure.

The cool thing about the Copper Caps is they will take a pounding if you keep a spare one in your accessory bag. I have two in an old Shure mic case. Don't have to worry about them breaking!!

The difference is mostly in the area of the sag... the Weber has just a little extra sag and maybe a bit smoother. Either one is worth a try for sure. The GT version has zero sag. It is straight 4007 diodes. Folks that use this are Buddy Whittington and Michael Burks. I am not sure if it is the GT version but all these standard SS plug in rectifiers are the same not counting the Weber. The Weber gives you the advantages of each ... ultra reliability and great amp feel that you usually only get with a vacuum tube rectifier.

I use JJ rectifiers in my Z's and GT solid state plug-in for my Allen Old Flame. I keep a Copper Cap in my case, along with a variety of backup tubes, in case the JJ fails.
