I've recently stumbled upon how awesome it can be to use a "fattening" boost--especially comined with the Strat's bridge pickup, for instance. I loved the Fat-Boost 3 into my MAZ (I hadn't acquired the RC yet) and more recently loved how perfect the RC-Booster feels in front of my tweed Deluxe clone. Pretty sure the RC works a little better with my tweed because of the pedal's fantastic active EQ; which has me thinking that I've gotta try it with the Ghia (similar 2-knob-only volume & tone). Anyone have a preference for just a bit of fattening in their tone? I know the EP-boost is super popular around here, too; but I'm not looking to boost the volume significantly, just adding some fatness.

I've never tried to the Fulltone so I can't speak to that , but the RC has never left my board. Love it , fantastic pedal.

Yeah, if you want "FAT"...the EP booster is capable of as little or as plenty as needed.

Depends on the amp and at what volume you're talking about. Fat can easily turn into Fart. One of my favorites is the older Boss PQ-4. Makes it easy to really center in on the fat zones. www.bossarea.com/loadpage.asp?file=boxes/pq-4.xmlLot's of great boost pedals out there. It's usually a matter of finding the right combo for a specific amp, guitar and volume. Which is why I've ended up with a bunch of 'em.

I like to use my EP for a boost or Timmy depending on how it's dialed in. Makes life simpler when you just have to set a knob and forget it like the EP. What speaker is in you clone? I've got a Weber AlNiCo in mine and it's fine for house jams but lacks a little at live ones.

Never tried it up against a drummer or another guitarist, but like you said it sounds fine at the jamming volumes that I've asked of it.

Mine's a 12A150 if that speaker code means anything Mark.

I use a gtrwrks 19sixty3 boost pedal. It does a great job of fattening your tone. Really makes my Tele sound great. I was introduced to it by our very own rcrelious.

Yea, I'm big on the "fattening" effect some boosts provide. That's probably the main characteristic I look for. I've used the EP for several years now and serves me well, plus it's a simple one knob control. My bandmate uses the Fulltone FB-3 and it works great as well. Another pedal I really fattens up my tele bridge is the Barber Gain Changer. I actually use it in low gain mode and just to add a little hair to the notes. But the way they have it eq'd is just perfect for my tastes.

I think this 'fatness' is basically what Fender does with the mid-boost control in the Eric Clapton Strat. It's amazing what it does for those 'Noiseless pick-ups'. Without the added mids I've always thought they were pretty lame. If it can make those sound good it has to be good medicine for a lot of other pickups.

I got a great deal on a Fulltone FB3. Not really liking it with the Zwreck. I noticed that it can get really bright, especially with the Drive knob set higher. I had to roll the treble knob back, almost completely, and it was still pretty bright. I could see how this would be useful for darker voiced amps but the Wreck really doesn't need the extra brightness.
The EP Boost sounds great with the Wreck, however. I might grab another EP. It just works great for me.

One I just stumbled upon is the TC spark mini.
Great pedal that takes up about as little pedalboard real estate as you could ask for!

I was using an EP booster, until I added the Gristle King. Now, I just use the onboard boost, which is independent, so I can also run it with the Gain Changer.
This is on the board for the band, no need for a boost at home.

I almost forgot. I have the analogman KoT and it makes a great boost. It really does fatten up the tone. I have thought of putting both sides in to boost mode and running it as a dual boost with two different levels of boost. I wish it had the external switch for the red side, then it would be an easy switch.
But I do have a Hermida Dual Boost on the way so I'll see how that goes. I don't know that it was advertised so much as a fattening boost, but instead it's supposed to be transparent. As long as it doesn't add treble like the FB-3.
