The seller is claiming that this is a Dr. Z 2x10 cab, but describes it as a "Chicago 2x10" which sounded familiar to me - turns out a business called Rocket Cabs makes a similar looking cabinet and calls them "Chicago". Hmmmmm... Unfortunately, this is the only photo I have to go on. I know that Dr. Z used to make 2x10's in this horizontal format, but I'm wondering if there's anything obvious in this photo that tell us if it is in fact a "real" Dr Z? Thanks in advance! What are the speakers and did the seller say they were stock? That might help.

Waiting to hear back from the seller regarding specs. It's a Music-go-round, so I'm not hopeful that the information will be complete or even accurate.

Looks too tall to be an original Z 2x10. Where's the piping? Would like to see the back as well.

^^^ Right! Also, not sure if Z ever used that type of handle. I thinking it is NOT a Z, but I've been surprised...even wrong before!!...lol
Also, if you look at the grill cloth edges, not perfect enough to be a Z.
Looks like a Rocket Cab's Chicago cab to me.

Funny I saw the exact same cab in Albuquerque about 9mo. ago at......Music-Go-Round! I wondered the same thing and thought I would pass. I did talk to the manager there because there was a blonde Ghia head with it. He kept saying that they were a matching pair and he would not split them. I told him I was skeptical and would pass.

nmz, that's the one!
I hope nobody unwittingly buys this thing. Brand new they sell for less than what MusicGoRound is selling it for. Yikes!

For comparison, new size vs. old.

That's awesome, Lefty! Is there much of a difference in sound between those two? Im' kind of wondering why it was redesigned.

The old style original Z 2x10 cabs were only 14 inches tall. This one looks a lot taller.
To me, it looks nothing like an old Z 2x10.

The handle hardware is wrong. I have an old style 1x12 - the screws do not come through the top of the cover. I checked all my amps and cabs - none have screws showing. My guess is that this is not a Z cab.

The new 2x10 and 1x12 convertible cabs are the same size different baffle. This make production much easier. I have the 1x12 convertible cab and I love it. Apples and oranges tho. The old style 2x10 with the back off sounds just like a 2x10 combo IMHO.

between fasteddy's response and Jaguarguy's detective work, looks like we can put a nail in this one. Definitely NOT a Z.
Lefty, yes it makes sense on a production level to keep the cab dimensions the same and just change the baffle. With my setup, the old style (shorter, longer) 2x10 would work perfectly. I'm guessing that this will not be an easy piece of gear to locate.

Heard back from the seller today, and it is indeed a Rocket Cab. The reason they say Dr. Z on the listing is because it is loaded with what he says are 2 "blue" Dr. Z speakers. All things considered, I think $400 plus shipping is pretty steep.
