Just got back from two weeks away. Spent a couple hours going back and forth between Therapy and Z Wreck combo with an LP. Loving both. I'd offer a comparison, but I was, once again, having so much fun playing that I didn't set up a proper a/b rig. (The Therapy was driving a closed-back Avatar cab with a Creamback.)
Both are great amps. As I've said before, I like all my Zs, but if I had to narrow it down, I'd keep the Wreck, Therapy, JAZ and MAZ 8.

I do see where you're going though - stellar amplifiers all around.

True, not narrow in terms of range of tones, by design, but narrow compared with the current stable (I keep repeating "I am lucky to be able to indulge this interest.") Now, I'm off to rehearsal at a studio that has s**t for amps. Maybe I'll pack a Z in addition to my other gear

Yep. I just sold my M12 towards the Therapy due here on Wednesday. I have the Z28 up as well..I feel the pain right now, hoping I did the right thing.
Did you guys feel it necessary to swap tubes for NOS?
Thanks

Mine sounds so good I haven't even thought of swapping tubes yet. I suppose a good NOS rectifier would be prudent, but the rest of the tube set sounds pretty righteous as delivered.

12 weeks in and still thrilled!!!
Like Steve said, I've found no need to play with the tubes.
I have a Mullard 5AR4 that I've thought about dropping in for reliability, but have not done it.
I did buy a matched pair of JJ 6L6's for when the inevitable happens. I have a few pair NOS 6L6's and variants and a lot of NOS 12AX7's but have not found the reason to tinker.
Sounds great as prescribed!

Well come to think of it, I do have some tubes I bought for another amp here that I think will work should I wish to experiment. But I'm still exploring all the great sounds I can get with the factory configuration. I've barely played my Les Paul through there yet because the Strat and the Tele are just killing it good. I even bought new strings for all my guitars in anticipation of trying them all, but I have not made time to start the string swap project. Just too much tone coming out of there to stop playing...

Same here, I'm one week in with my Therapy and I haven't changed tubes yet. I've never had an amp this long without pulling the tubes and trying others out. I did pull them and tested them for a baseline, but they went right back in. Loving this amp, brothers. Loving this amp.

OK....I've had Therapy #15 over a year now and I like it better now than when in the honeymoon stage. It's actually my reference amp. It will do everything I want from a guitar amplifier. There is not a lot of talk about the clean tones from this amp. (My first good amp was Music Man HD-120 212 combo. I still have that amp and learned quickly the way to get clean and dirty tones from a master volume amp) Crank the master volume WIDE open and the volume on zero....now adjust volume to taste. ( This set up is different from other Dr Z master volume amps...ie Maz series.) The Therapy LOUD crystal clear clean tones are amazing! ** Sorry if you already knew/know this about the MV, but doesn't seem to get talked about or pointed out often. Most know the great crunch & breakup tones and beyond you can get from this amp. Smooth & creamy. I have seen some people post this amp is bright. With the Treble above noon it does have plenty of highs, but that is what the knob is for. I normally run my treble at noon, mid about 2pm and bass about 9am. The cool thing about it is I can manipulate the volumes, to extremes either way, and not have to touch the EQ knobs. That's amazing if you ask me. Most amps need the bass reduced as you crank the gain. A year in.......still love it. The only thing I'm waiting on is the Therapy combo..... DRZ?

It would definitely fit in a Z-Wreck combo type cab... but it would be HEAVY.
