These are fairly affordable NOS tubes and they are similar to 6V6s. Can I sub them in the '28 without any negative consequences? I haven't compared their draw or output. Thanks for any insight.

I looked this up in my 'Howard Sams Tube Substitution Handbook' and it lists the 7408 as a direct replacement. That tells me the pinout is the same and the plate voltage is close enough. The numbering indicates it was made for military use so it should be quite rugged. You are going to want to re-bias anyway so make sure your tech has the specs for plate current dissipation. As long as that's done properly you won't have a problem.
It's funny I've never run across that tube before. I've always had access to enough 6V6's that I didn't need to go looking for a substitute.

I did a little more research. The heater current is the same. Your power transformer will like that. It is a slightly higher power tube than a 6V6 and the plate voltage is rated at 350 vs. 315 for the 6V6.

Thanks for the info on the heated current and whatnot. That's good info and will help if I drop a pair into my '28. I was looking for an alternative bc the NOS prices of 6V6s can be a bit much and they don't make em like they used to... Thanks again Zpilot.

As curious Z-28 owner. I would like to hear your experiences with 7408. Also where are you getting the tubes.

I'm kinda curious if they'll work in a Remedy.

There are a couple of online sources for the tubes. I haven't gotten the tubes yet but when I do I will report.
