Just wondering..every guitarist could go to that site and out together "their" guitar, it seems like. Some really pretty wood on there sometimes. Not that it's cheap!! Anyone ever done this, and was it worth it? Thanks, DD

Yup, one of the Best Players I have
1 piece light weight ash body, tobacco burst Brazillian board neck, Clapton shape Stainless Steel frets
I had some of the other parts, like trem and neck plate But remember shelling out just over $700 for the body and neck
For a goof, I spec'd out the same Guitar from Fender Custom Shop Required Master Built, couldn't do the Brazilian or Stainless Frets, or 1 piece light weith But still quoted over $8000

I built a whole Warmoth guitar many years ago, before I really knew what each and every part & spec really affected (neck radius, fretwire size, bridge choice, etc.)--but it was still a pretty nice guitar. Body was swamp ash, though, which was extremely soft and would dent/scratch if you just pointed anything hard or sharp in its direction.
Excellent quality stuff, but it's not cheap so just make sure you're 100% sure of what specs you're choosing and why.

Yep...Built a few over the years. The quality is great, but can be pricy depending on the options. Just make sure you're going to build something for you and something that you're actually going to play as you won't really make your investment back when and if you go to sell it. I had a couple of friends build top notch guitars to the tune of about 2k for them and they couldn't give them away for half that when they decided to move on.

Yep--you can build a very nice guitar for $1200 or so, but it won't have much in the way of resale value no matter how great it plays and sounds. Do it because you like a project, and the idea of having a guitar that's built your way to your specs. Then, if you decide to get rid of it, do a Peter Townshend, or set it on fire like Jimi.

That's right, parts guitars are not worth much resale so whatever you build, you're pretty well stuck with it. Granted, if you go into it knowing exactly what you want it can be quite rewarding! I've built a few teles but never w Warmoth parts...my most expensive one(1st one) cost right at a grand and it's a playa for sure.

There's a lot of options out there...just do your research and make sure you're buying from a reputable company.
Here's a "not Warmoth" list, I'm sure others will chime in with their own recommendations as well...
Guitarmill Allparts Musikraft Callaham USA Custom Guitars

I've done Warmoth. It's a great guitar. I also have a MJT which I have basically started from scratch on less the frets. The Warmoth is an excellent ax. I have about 750.00 it's about 10 years old or more now. If I were to build that exact same guitar now with the same parts it would be about 1375.00 and worth it to me. It's better than many guitars that cost more but for having 750 into it and being such a great player, I have ZERO complaints. Same with the MJT with AllParts Fender components less the pups and electronics... and saddles and bridge plate... and pickguard. I would say at this point the MJT is probably a better value if you're willing to put a little work into it yourself.

Anyone ever done this, and was it worth it? Thanks, DD I have $1500 tied up in parts and wood for a tele from USACG. I haven't had time to work on it. Been doing repairs to a 125 year old late Victorian home that needs some attention.

A Carvin was my first guitar I ever saved up and bought. I just wish I would not have had a dang floyd rose put on it... because when I played my first show with it and broke a string I realized right then and there that I hated floyd roses .
if not for that I'd a kept it. Hard for me to justify the money thought because I can get a Fender or Gibson for less now a days.

I've never built a guitar totally with Warmoth parts but I've been using their stuff since the late '70's. It's always been first rate. Their necks can get expensive IF you choose a lot of the upgrade options. I have a general rule of thumb. If I know the guitar is going to be a 'keeper' I go with Warmoth. If I'm experimenting or there is a good chance I will wind up selling the instrument I will opt for something cheaper. Most of what I have built in the last 20 years has been for other people and my first recommendation is usually Warmoth. Having said that, there are some bargains out there on good used parts; things like MIM Fender necks. So don't get too hung up on brand names.

^^^^^^ Can't remember who it was now but a member built a LP junior a short while back from a kit and they posted a thread covering every stage of the process. It wa very interesting to follow and resulted in a beautiful looking and finished guitar. Worth looking for the thread.

I put together my tele out of an MJT body and a variety of used parts I gathered from a variety of sources. The only things I bought new were the neck pickup, ferrules, and switch tip iirc. It's my favourite guitar now and I play it 10X as much as my Suhr strat. I ended up taking it in to a local luthier to fine tune the setup and it was worth the extra bit since I still ended up with a fantastic guitar for less than $800. I should also add that although I didn't use any warmoth parts in this build, I do have a warmoth bass neck and the quality was superb.

Since I make my own bodies, I purchased a neck from them for it and love it. Not cheap, but definitely worth it.

The guitar in my avatar is a Carvin. I love that guitar. SS frets, ebony fretboard and tung oil on the back of the neck. Plays so smoothly and the notes ring out so nicely. Last year I got a deal on a Gibson LP and however much I like it I still want a LP-like Carvin.
