Wow.
All I need to say, really. I was prepared to be disappointed, given my finicky nature re: amps. There was no need. There is no disappointment here. This is a must-have amplifier. Thank you Michael Zaite. Thank you, sir.
This is amp is fairly different than my other Z's, but then, not really. Just a different flavor, but not so dissimilar from my other faves - the Wreck/Rem/StangRay. A nice compliment to the others and a superb choice for the day, for the gig, for the track, whatever. Can't go wrong here, this Therapy'll do it all, clean to mean. There are a ton of variations in tone here, and it's gonna take me a while to really get to know her and really decide on where my go to settings are, but I didn't find a bad setting thus far! I think the key word here, as already coined by the previous reviewers, is "sweet". Remember, I'm very picky and I've sent back and sold other amps that you guys love, and I'm saying this amp is sweeeeeet! Smooth, smooth, smooth. And as others have said, it's superb sounding at about any volume as the MV works gloriously, but really opens up with the master at half mast and above. With the gain/volume down below noon, cleans are very sweet and very usable and taking a solo in clean world is an absolute joy. However, I don't live there that often, I tend to like a fair amount of nazz at my fingertips (guitar volume knob), so I run the "preamp" volume up at 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock on most of these amps (except the StangRay is nutted with a brake). Set so, this Therapy does just what I want! Cleans up with GV down for rhythm and then it's dial-a-nazz for as much nazz as seems to be called for in solos, etc. The Therapy's nazz is soooooo smooth, smoother than any of these other amps and smoother than any amp I've ever played, and is simply addicting. The tone controls are VERY adjustable and do all sorts of cool and useful things, and sound good in about any position - as I've already said, there are a ton of tones in this amp. One thing I have to say: the Doc mislabeled the Mid knob. It should be labeled Cream. Never before have I had an amp where I loved the mid knob, but this knob just dials up creamy, and I mean CREAMY, tone that made me pee my pants and not wanna stop soloing because I couldn't get enough of that creamy sound. This amp'll get loud, loud enough for any gig, but the PPIMV is the best I've ever heard, and you can play any gig with this amp with all the nazzy tone you want at any volume and not be the slightest bit dissatisfied.
I tried it it first through the wreck cab - nice hard attack. Then a Z cab with 2 blue celestions, much softer feel, but still great. Then my Matchless cab, essentially the same as the Z Best (my Wreck is running through that now), and smooth and softer feeling but really a great sound. I flip flopped back and forth between the Therapy and the Wreck - these are two different versions of greatness, one not more preferable than the other. I'd be happy plugging into either of 'em anytime. Didn't A-B it with the Rem or the StangRay yet. Didn't A-B it with my '53 Twin yet either to see if the Therapy is really twin-like, but it seems quite different than that amp, however that is not to take anything away from this Therapy. That old twin has one great sound! This therapy has way more choices.
OK. Rambled enough. I'll add more if it seems appropriate and as I get to know her better. Sum it up: some of the best money I've ever spent, along with that spent on the Wreck.
