I am a Z28 owner. I really dig the amp but wanted a little more clean volume. Could I sub 5881 for the 6V6 bias and be safe. I know the heater requirements are about double but the PT looks capable. Just a thought and thanks.

If your Z28 has JJ 6V6's in it, they sound and act a lot like 6L6 type tubes anyway. You could start by having the stock tubes re-biased a little colder and see if that gets you any closer to what you are wanting.

I don't believe you can swap in a 5881 for a 6V6.
A 5881 is similar to a 6L6GB.

I looked at this a bit for the Remedy once, and decided I was out of my element. But before I decided that, I discovered that the two tubes have vastly different electrical parameters with regard to output impedance. In short, the design would be unduly affected. No telling what it would sound like, but it wouldn't be the same amp at all, assuming it didn't just flame out.

Thanks after a little research that agrees with what everybody is saying here. I think I won't mess with it. I will enjoy what I have. Thanks again.
