I've been playing Z's since 2008, but I have only recently acquired a Z-Best. Heck, I've never really spent much time with one until now.
Ironically, I only bought the Z-Best because it was being sold with the EZG-50 that I recently bought. I thought that it wouldn't be a great pair together, but DANG if I wasn't dead wrong. I've since tried the Z-Best with a few other amps and it really does improve the tone of just about everything it sees.
This thing is a keeper. Wish it didn't take me so long to find this out!
PS - It's just a stock Z-Best (G12H30 / Vintage 30), but Doc got it right for sure with those!

Agreed, the Z-Be(a)st is an awesome sounding cab. Just wish they weren't such a pain to haul around. I still have my Z-Best but had to get a Port City 1x12 OS for smaller/quieter gigs, but it definitely doesn't have the body, meat and thrust of the Z-Be(a)st.

After having it for a while now I'm just coming up to my second gig with my Z-Best. The first was in a club with a decent sounding stage and it was really overkill, as in the FOH guy said I was really loud (but sounded great ). I knew this guy and his appreciation for Z's so it wasn't an issue, but I have no idea what I'll be dealing with this time. It's an outdoor gig on a large concrete platform/stage and I should be able to have the cab about 8-10 feet behind me to get in the focal point. I'm just wondering since I know they tend to be fairly directional if I should be sidewashing it to get some volume over to the other guitarist who'll be about 8-10 feet from me on the other side of the singer and bassist. Do any of of you point your Z-Best substantially different from straight ahead?

It is a very directional cabinet. I am thinking it won't side wash very well tho. I have used my z best and my singer who stands 3 feet away from me says she can't hear me. Have the sound guy put you through their monitors a bit. That is really the only way to be heard. I really like the Z Best for outdoor larger stages. Just be specific to the sound man which speaker you want miced.

Thanks for the info! I guess I might need to take the back off to make sure I have the speaker orientation correct, but having never experimented with micing individual speakers in the cabinet I'm not sure which to try, but I'm guessing with my Route 66 the G12H30 might be a better idea.
