I just got a pair of NOS GE 7581A tubes. They're marked RCA actually. I thought I was buying a pair of KT66 for my Route 66, but now that I see these in person, they're not a KT66. I just did a search on TGP and found out that they are good tubes, but not identical to a KT66. This is obvious when you see them..... they look more like a 6V6 but bigger.....definitely smaller than a KT66.
So I'm guesing these probably don't work in the ultralinear fashion that the KT66 does in the Route 66, right? Are they the equivalent of putting a 6L6 in a Route 66?
[edit] Dr Z said that he's seen these tubes, but never tried them in a Route. I might just spend the big bucks on some used Genalex KT66.

7581As are a beefier 6l6GC. I can't imagine why either wouldn't work in an Ultralinear amp. In fact, I know they will. Fender used off the shelf 6l6GCs in their 1970's UL amps.

Thanks for the info Mike. I ended up selling that pair to a friend who put them in his Vibroverb clone. His amp has problems though, so I may get them back, we'll see. I just installed a pair of Valve Arts KT66 and I like them so far, but I haven't really cranked it up yet.
