I know this has been talked about before but I justed switched the 5751 in P2 to a 12ax7 in my Mazerati. I noticed that my amp breaks up quicker and sounds more "conventional" (like a Marshall). With the 12ax7 in P2 the amp responds a little better to overdrives to my ear as well. It's nice, but it takes away from the depth of tone that was there with the stock 5751.
What other preamp (or Rectifier tubes) have you put in yout Mazerati? I'm more interested in tube model numbers (12ax7, 12ay7, ECC...) than NOS Brands and whatnot. Please dumb it down for me.
Can you switch the 5751 to position one? What will that do?
Could I put a 5751 in a Fender or Marshall without screwing it up? Where would I put it?

You can use a 5751 in anyplace where a 12AX7 is used. It will lower the front end gain a bit. This goes for a Mazerati, Fender, or Marshall.
Put in the first gain stage .... generally V1 or V2 in a Fender Blackface/silverface for the vibrato channel.

Not to sound stupid, but where exactly are V1 and V2? Or what does that mean? thanks. Dan

Not to sound stupid, but where exactly are V1 and V2? Or what does that mean? thanks. Dan V1 is the tube most close to the input jack ... count from there. V = valve, the British term for tube. Look on most any schematic and the tubes will be labeled V1, V2 etc ... or V1a, V1b, referring to the two sides of a dual triode such as a 12AX7. You should download my free 200+ page tube primer.... might help a lot.

I've got RCA and GE 5751s and a Mullard rectifier in mine. I've had it that way for quite a while now and it sounds great. I run my Mazerati clean and use pedals for OD.
