That's good to finally see the JJ EF86. I've heard talk about it for several years now, and it looks like it's finally ready to be released. Hope it performs well. I'd be interested in hearing the reviews.

MUST REPORT ON THE JJ KT66 ASAP!!!
I think everyone is waiting to hear how will those respond in Route 66 (if that's where you will use them).

Just as a bit of info, the JJ EF806S non-Gold pin had the following test results: The Gold pin tested even less favorably: The performance of each of these is not on par or spec with NOS EF86 examples but this was a small sample and these were not graded or selected via the normal GT process, these were right from the JJ factory. Normally when GT procures samples for evaluation they typically send cherry picked examples. If this is the best example I would have concerns. How well these hold up against microphonics in the longer term is being looked into now.

The guy on the eurotubes page is saying the JJ KT66s sound better than his genelex... I dunno about all that but.. oh man, if they get close, that's good enough for me. I can't afford those fancy NOS KT66s anyhow. I've got a mullard ef86 on the way to try in the 66. I've got a amperex in there right now and can't tell a huge diff from the original tube. Hoping the mullard will be an improvement (not that it needs to improve!).

The Amperex could be a Mullard! Ive got a bugle boy thats blackburn factory code. These guys were all over the place back then, phillips owned amperex and mullard at different times etc. Point is sometimes ya might have to try to accumulate a pile of em to try the flavors. You can have some fun on e-bay if ya dont go crazy and accept some risk that you might not get really nos or even tested! but if ya keep the expenditure low you can at least try some different ones, and then maybe get a target for a special one. Ive found that with all that ive tried, ( lots of EF's! ) the differences are subtle, some a little brighter, some a bit gainy-er, some a little fuller. But not all over the map. I think i get actually more difference with swapping phase inverters!! Dont forget that tube, not only is it important for your Kt's, but you can really tailor the amp tone wise too!

FYI... while still not available, I see the JJ kt-66's will have a metal base and possibly have the same issue of shorting as tung-sols. I wonder if these are actually the same tube?
