Is it normal for KT66's in my Route 66 to rattle when driven hard?
It's not the vibration from the speaker because I ran the amp through my HotPlate set to Load to make sure and when the amp is cranked and I hit the strings hard, I can hear the tubes rattling. I'm pretty sure it is the tubes themselves and not something else.
I don't think it affects the sound in an audible way, just wondering ...

i've gotten the same problem with 2 sets of GT KT66-HP's, but it does affect because there is a certain crackling as the note ends its decay

I've checked with Groove Tubes and the tubes are under warranty so I've sent them back, hopefully the new set will last a bit longer. They weren't rattling right out of box and I haven't even taken the amp outside my house yet. I got an extra set I can throw in there for now.

yeah, I replaced them once, but now the second set is out of warranty, so I'm stuck. I'm now trying the chinese KT66's

Well got in the Shuguangs and biased them about 40/42mA and the amp sounds weaker and thinner than with the GT's. How hot do they need to be biased, thanks

Shuguangs are definitely brighter then the Russian ones. I know everybody is saying to bias them on the hot side but (to my ear) they sound the best at around 36-38mA.
