I would like a little more clean sound out of my MAZ JR. I have done some reading on the boards here about 12at7 tubes being used in the PI slot to increase headroom on a MAZ JR. But I have another question regarding how it will affect the amps tone. Will it make the amp warmer sounding, and how will it affect bass mids and treble? Also, other than increasing headroom, what will I loose tonewise by utilizing a 12at7 in the PI slot. Thanks for the help, I am interested on learning more about this.

When I had my Maz 38, I tried a Mullard 12AT7 in the PI position (V5). Although it's been a while, and I don't remember specifics about bass/mid/treble tone changes, the one thing that stood out clearly is that the amp sounded decidedly more FENDERISH!
Give it a try. You can get one of the Mullard 12AT7's balanced for about $25. If you dont like it in the PI slot, you can always use it in V3, which is the reverb driver slot, and has a Chinese 12AT7 in it anyway.
Good Luck.
