I have a used (but new to me) KT-45 on the way. This is my first amp with an EF86 front-end so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. My goal is to use it as a clean, open pedal platform for everything from ambient to progressive hard rock.
I'm very interested in any advice, insights, opinions, etc in how to get the best out of this amp.
Any and all feedback is welcome.
Thanks!

If you want loud clean remember that the controls for Volume Treble Bass add gain to their respective bands past noon on each control. So for clean keep them below noon to start. My favorite setting though is all knobs at 2:00. Killer amp.

The KT's knobs do drive when you go past noon, but, at least in my experience, will stay clean a lot longer than the other ef86 Z amps that I have (Route 66 and Z28). The amp is terrific with pedals in front of it. Although it probably seems a little counterintuitive, the KT is my favorite Z amp for use with my archtops because of the clean headroom available; I set the volume at noon, bass and treble both at nine o'clock, with guitar volume and tone both about 4 for a very usable jazz sound. For solo boost with this setup, I use a MXR MicroAmp.

I agree with what everyone has said above. When I first got mine, I took it to a gig without having very much time to fiddle with it before hand. I kept the bass and treble below noon and was quite satisfied. However after fiddling with it later, I moved those tone knobs to about 2 0'clock and the amp came alive. My favorite settings now are all controls around 2 0'clock. I have used the KT with a celestion 12 H30 and an avatar 2-10 cab with a gold and a Z 10" and although they both sound great, I prefer the 2-10 setup with the gold and Z. Would love to try it with a 12" gold. Just my two cents worth.
