Last night, my first gig with a Stangray in about 4-5 years. This time, I got to use the Creamback. Still had a brakelite on 2. I made a nice folding clear plexi shield and was looking forward to using it. Got to the gig....I left it at home! Clear shield up against a clear window...lesson learned. I was able to pick up on subtle differences between the Ray, and my Remedy and Ghia. The Ghia, because of wattage and being a 1x10 combo, gets 90% of the work. But for bigger gigs, I've been using the Remedy and now the Stangray. Last night was the first time I've even been able to crank it up to stage volume. First thing I noticed was that I didn't have to attempt to dial out any ice pick highs I thought I was going to encounter. In fact, I turned the cut UP for a bit more. I thought I'd gig with the cut at 9:00-10...but ended up with it at noon. I have a beam blocker in there, I don't know if that makes much difference. I kept playing with the tone from 10:00 to noon. Anything past noon...too much bass. My 1x10 Ghia combo is probably a little mid heavy because of the 10 and the small cabinet. And since it gets 90% of the work, that's probably what I'm accustomed too. So last night, I could hear the slight scoop of the 'ray. I actually had a little bit of a struggle trying to dial out the bass. It's just so authoritative with the 'ray. (in a good way) Again, a 1x10 Ghia isn't going to have massive bass, so I was surprised last night. Next weekend we have an outdoor gig, I get to use it again. Here's last night's stage.

Six months after my el-84 amp housecleaning, the Ray is the only one I really miss. Great amp, even at lower volumes.

Nice read John. Cool picture, nice looking rig, stage space and plexiglass shielding drum noise and dig the floor markings indicating how to get to the bathroom. Actually since it's a dark stage that a very good marker. It's such a great amp and lots of fun when you can get it moving some air. I'm approx 1 month Ray'less and miss it's beautiful tone and huge thud factor.

Howdy,
John, you and the rest of the Stangray crowd are killing me! I love my Ghia and simply cannot afford a 'Ray. I'm just gonna have to avoid the Stangray section, LOL.

There's nothing wrong with having 'just' a Ghia. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with it. The Stangray is a true guilty pleasure for me. When this band breaks up, I'll probably sell it.
