The Mullard to me, definitely has the tightest response with the least amount of sag of any rectifier tube I've tried. I liked the mislabeled 5V4, but if crapped out on me after about 1.5 years. It had great response though, and the right amount of sponginess for me.

DC - Here!
Last night I swapped out the JJ-GZ34 rectifier tube in my Route66 for the NOS JAN Phillips misslabeled one I bought from KCA.
Can't say say I noticed any great difference in sound. First I thought the amp sounded a bit softer & smoother after the switch - but hard to tell really.

Those NOS rectos are much "stronger" the new ones and most likely you'll need to adjust the bias.

"iggs" - Ok I'll try that. When I have changed the on/off switch on my Biasrite. I wiill throw the original tubes back in and chek the current and platevoltage to get a base line. Then take it from there.
