I have recently been enjoying my "new to me" Jaz 20/40 Combo, but when I turn on the trem via the stock footswitch it takes 2-3 seconds for it to kick in. When it does it takes another 2 seconds to reach its full effect. Is this normal? If not any ideas? FWIW the Reverb turns on immediately when I hit the footswitch.
I will post a NAD thread with my full post-honeymoon impressions of the Jaz 20/40 shortly.

That doesn't strike me as normal. I'll probably fire up my JAZ later today, so I'll check out the trem switching to confirm.
Eager to get your impressions. I really, really like the JAZ. I lean toward using it for blackface type tones, although it can do more than that.

If it's an opto isolater trem that may be normal...my '65 Super Reverb does the same thing.

Mine takes a second or so to take effect Matt.

Just checked mine. It seems to start and stop quite promptly after stomping. To test, I cranked speed and depth up pretty high.

Mine takes a couple of seconds to take effect. I believe it is a bias type tremolo which was used on a few amps in the early '60's so that would be normal. I've gotten used to having to hit the switch a little bit before I want it to come on.

Mine also takes a couple seconds to engage, but boy when it does, WOW.....best tremolo I have ever played. I remember reading somewhere that due to the design there was a slight lag, but you got a better tone with that design. Will keep trying to find where I read it.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen! Sounds like the slight delay in trem is par for the course. I certainly agree that it is worth the brief wait!
My other Zs are getting a bit jealous since the arrival of the Jaz. Not a bad sound in it!

My Stangray hates my JAZ, I have to keep an amp and cab between them . I hate admitting it, but I totally ignored the JAZ when it came out. But now that I have one, I can't believe I just kinda dismissed the JAZ without giving it a try. I feel it is the best all around amp Z has made. Some are better at one tone or another, but all around and feature wise, my hat is off to it, wish it was still in the line up.

I'll bet that soon or later he will put out at least a limited production run.

If he reissues it, I hope it's offered in a head version with the oval front valence like my older model EZG. Very unlikely but as long as I'm wishing...... That oval front on the heads and combos just seemed made for those two amps but I understand the production issues which were probably behind the change. There is always Harvey for a piece of art oval valence.

The trem is true tube bias modulated and not opto isolator. Mine has a slight delay before engagement as well.

Also, the intensity decreases somewhat when you play hard and fast; then comes back up when you let the notes sustain. At least mine does. That's what I really like about it. You can turn the intensity up and not be concerned that it will tend to 'mute' some notes. Anyone else hearing this with yours?

If it's muting that is because you are picking between the pulse.

Yes, that is the case with my opto-type trem amps. But with the JAZZ it just seems to be a softer effect when I'm actually picking; almost like the ducking effect that some delays have.
